MINSTER MAYHEM

NEW YEAR 2005/6

The brief was simple, turn up on Thursday, go cavorting and drinking from Thursday evening to Monday morning. Cue Karen and Kim a day late (Snow is no excuse in the North). This did mean a Kims not here social though. Off to Ye Olde Star it was. Simon could find Stonegate but couldn't see the sign for the pub. A little too small perhaps?

Friday was a trip to the Minster. We arranged to meet our tour guide Little Margaret at La Tasca for food first (Simon insisted). The staff thought she was mad asking for a table for 10 to meet some people she didn't know. I'm not sure us arriving helped any. In the Minster we all reminisced about entering the "design a boss" competition for Blue Peter after the North Transept caught fire. None of us won which is why we all do science now.

Afterwards there was just time for a tea before going to collect Karen from the station. This cunningly involved sitting in a pub til her train turned up. Bryony tried the barmans recommended cider but didn't want to complain it tasted funny. The barman nearly spat it in her face when she was persuaded to. Turned out it wasn't supposed to taste like vinegar.

Saturday was new years eve. Everyone was up bright and early and after a full English we were out of the door and into town by 3pm. Just time to visit Cliffords Tower. We played spot the minster but Dan couldn't find it.

He did, however, become a knight.

After a quick Burger at Oscars we went back to Ye Olde where we sat and drank. And drank. And drank. And then played hide and seek.

And then played meerkats

Then decided we were ashamed of Kim

Then we went to the Minster for bell tolling.

On our final day we didn't leave the house. We played Descent, a game with giants and dragons and spiders. For 8 hours. 6 year old Sam popped in and asked what we were playing. Apparently he thought about getting it for Christmas but decided he didn't like killing people.
