The participants must investigate :

Paragraph  

Distinct passage or section in a book etc., marked by indentation in of the first line; a group of sentences that they develop an idea and it is separated by a point and separated. It can find or contain several sentences pointed out by points or points and comas and it constitutes the spine of a text. 

There are different types of paragraphs; the most important thing is that it should included the information that he/she responds to the questions like: what?, who?, when?, where?, why? and how? Will. Depends on the type written and of the style of the writing, if answers to the questions: one for paragraph or two in oneself paragraph. 

Types of paragraphs:  

(A) Definition paragraph . These paragraphs are used to define a term or concept that it will be used later on, along the chapter, article or book. Without these conceptual definitions, the reader would not understand the author's ideas. 

(B) Classification paragraph : Constituted by a list of properties that they can describe oneself object, fact or devises. 

(C) Description paragraph : it presents people's characterizations , objects, scenarios or processes through their features or characteristic distinctive 

(D) Comparison paragraph : It indicates the likeness or differences between two or more objects, situations, ideas or people 

And

(E) paragraph of Constract : it establishes an agreement comparison with certain approaches selected ahead of time. 

Topic Sentence

The topic sentence is the first sentence in a paragraph . It introduces the main idea of the paragraph .

Supporting Details

They come after the topic sentence , making up the body of a paragraph . They give details to develop and support the main idea of the paragraph .

Closing Sentence

The closing sentence is the last sentence in a paragraph . It restates the main idea of your paragraph .



Kings of Paragraphs

 

Definition

When writing a definition paragraph , you take a thing or an idea and explain what it is . Examples : “ is defined as” or “ is a kind of ”

Classification

When writing a classification paragraph , you group things or ideas into specific categories .

Helper Words : is a kind of. can be divided into , is a type of. falls under , belongs to , is a part of , fits into , is grouped with , is related to , is associated with .

Description

In a description paragraph, you are writing about what a person, place, or thing is like. Sometimes, you may describe where a place is located.

Helper Words: About Properties (size, colours , shapes, purpose); Measurement (length, width, mass/weight, speed), Analogy (is like, resembles) and Location (is, above, below, beside, near, north/south/east/west).

Compare and Contrast

In a compare and contrast paragraph, you write about the similarities and differences between two or more people, places, things, or ideas.

Helper Words :

On similarities: is similar to, both, also, too, as well

On differences : the other hand , however , but , in contrast , differs fron , while , unlike

 

Writing Practice Exercise #1

General Instructions: Please read the instructions for each part of the exercise. 

(a)   Write one topic sentence for each of the following topics: 

  • Your hometown 
  • A place you would like to travel to
  • (Another topic of your own choosing)

 

  • Your hometown

There are many topics of which can converse, but to speak of my native city causes me a lot of satisfaction. I was born in the city of Guarenas, in the time in that it was a quite calm city. Their hot climate allowed me to always enjoy sunny days. Although it was hard the days of classes because we had to go walking to the school. The days of vacations we enjoyed a lot because we could walk through the near rivers, to mount horse and to walk through the parks.

However, Guarenas is a very big city with a lot of people that soon will have the service of the subway. I always remember, that we could live with enough tranquility without the one to the moment of my childhood always shakes of a big city.

In spite of that I have very good memories of her and I am glad to see like it has grown.

 

 

  • A place you would like to travel to

Silvana Di Silvestre

From my childhood I have always dreamt of traveling to Europe. My parents are of Italian origin, for that reason I have big references of that country and of the rest of the countries. The history of Europe is very interesting to be like they say "the old continent." I would like to know the history of the place where my parents were born, to know to my family as well as the rest of Italy.

They count that the north of Italy is very industrialized, there is enough work and people have a good level of life.  As for the south, they say that there is not so many industries and there are few work sources, however people are very friendly.

I would like to know each corner of that Mediterranean beautiful country as well as the rest of the European continent since is part of my life.

 

 

(b)  Choose one of the above topics and write ONE complete paragraph about it. You should use a good topic sentence and adequately detailed supporting sentences. You do not have to include a concluding sentence if you do not wish to do so.

 

One of the most beautiful memories that  I have of Europe, went when I traveled to Germany, where my husband Rómulo, carried out a course. When he conclude the same one, we travel to Italy, we take a train from Germany, going by Austria and Switzerland. The landscape was spectacular, like it was season of snow, the houses that were seen in the field, seemed of movie. I always believed this alone one could see this show in the movies. The houses to the bottom with the roofs of snows, a true beauty.

I will remember this trip, of for life, and I give thanks to God to have allowed me to see so much beauty.

 

 

Writing Practice Exercise #2

Write paragraphs: 

 

(a)   One Definition paragraph of at least seven sentences. 

 

  • Knowledge: it is the Information that brings over of the world who allows to a Being to take decisions.
  • Intelligence is the capacity that we have to adapt situation new situations.
  • The sea, it is a great mass of salty water that covers most of the terrestrial globe.
  • An enormous sphere of gas, isolated in the space, which produces energy in   his interior.
  • Information is a set of significant and pertinent information that describe events or entities.
  • Data Information or so called is symbols that describe conditions, facts, situations or values.
  • The liberty it is the natural faculty of the man to act according to his will.

 

(b) One Classification paragraph with seven or more sentences.

  • The Animal kingdom is divide in he animal kingdom qualifies in: vertebrates and invertebrates.
  • The classification of the soils they are in the habit of being based on the morphology and the composition.
  • The sentences qualify in: denunciative, interrogative, exclamatory the modern roses qualify in climbing and not climbing.
  • The arts are divide between auditory and visual.
  • The stones qualify for his form in: of rolled form, angular form and flagstones.
  • The astrology you classify in: World Astrology, Astrology of Pairs or Couples and Astrology Predictive.

 

(c) One Description paragraph with seven or more sentences.

o       The house has room, dining room, bedrooms, garage, terrace, bathrooms and garden

o       The baby is fat, tiny and has hair and dark eyes

o       The countryman is of aquiline face, brown hair and clear face.

o       The boy was high, thin,  funny and blue eyes

o       Mr. Gonzalez is a serious man, dedicated to his work and kind

o       The girl was playful, friendly and very responsible

o       His eyes are happy and their nose is curved although very proportionate

 

(d) One Comparison paragraph with seven or more sentences.

  • I fattened so much that now the zipper doesn’t close.
  • She has so much problems that she, does not achieve.
  • The almond-tree is small that that there are in my garden
  • He was less prepared to jump that to run.
  • Its more easy to speak that to be kept in silent.
  • I do not find this city so interesting as they say.
  • He is less prepared to win the mark that to obtain it.

 

(e) One Constract paragraph with seven or more sentences.

o       In spite of the fact that I him dint not go well in view of the result of the examination.

o       Though you are antipathetic, want to know more about your life.

o       In spite of doing the exercises for 3 days, it, she will not finish them.

o       In spite of the above mentioned thing, if he will not change my point of view.

o       This racecing none the less, I wish to buy it, but, do not have money.

  • Still this way, he came to class singing
