REPORTS: CHP - Officer Chris Bille reported he was expecting Robert Banks to be back to work by the end of October although he is scheduled to work through November. Coordinator - Jesse Torres reported “so far so good”. Motor Carrier – Robert Turner reported that a lot of Thomas C2 Safety Liner buses were not in compliance with 13 CCR. Some were found with heater hoses running inside the vehicle causing a tripping hazard. Not all the decal lettering is correct. If you have one of these buses a Temporary Certificate (292) is be issued through October 22, 2006. CDE – Anna Borges handed out the 2007 OST Training Calendar and pointed out that this year five classes are being taught, one more than in the past years. One Mountain Driving Class in July, Dewrell Wesley is the lead Instructor. One Special Needs Class in July, Matt Sanchez is the lead Instructor. She announced that CDE is moving, probably by July, to a larger facility that will be close to the Academy. Instructor Manuals will hopefully be ready by mid winter. A letter will be sent out on where and when the class will be held, probably March 14, 2007 for this area. One session only from 10 AM to 3 PM. Attendance is mandatory. A draft copy of the new T-O1 cards was handed out. The new cards will be used in the January Instructor Training Course and will also be available on-line. We will not be expected to use the new T-O1’s until we have been trained. CDE has three new focuses this year. Student Management, Parallel Park and Accident Procedures. Left turns and Air Brakes (which were last years focus) will continue to be taught as well. Three CDE Instructors will be attending a Bendix Air Brake class. CDE’s goal is to someday have us all on the same page when it comes to air brakes. New Instructor trainees will be administered a test and if
they don’t pass the test their Instructor Certificate will be restricted to
BTW only. |

CASTO: Kevin Wedemeyer handed out a Chapter 3 Calendar for the year. He said the meetings will be held on the 2nd Tuesday night of each month which has changed from last years 2nd Wednesday night of each month. He pointed out that a lot of Instructors are not CASTO members, he passed out information on why to join and what you will get out of being a CASTO member, with an application. If you need this information you can contact Kevin at [email protected] Question: A letter was sent out asking members to pay CASTO dues in full for the year when in the past I have always done payroll deduction, can I still do payroll deduction? Answer: The letter can be ignored and payroll deduction is still being done. CASTO Chapter 3 needs a 2nd Vice President. CASTO Chapter 3 Transportation Workshop needs volunteers to teach workshop classes. Help is also needed for registration, lunch, etc… Kevin pointed out that it is a Transportation Workshop with something to offer everyone in your department. Drivers, Monitors, Mechanics, Instructors and Supervisors. So get your whole department involved and plan on being there. CASTO Chapter 3 Roadeo dates are indicated on the calendar. If you don’t have a calendar you can down load it off Chapter 3 web site. Post the calendar for your drivers. CASTO Conference will be in Monterey this year in April. Start planning now. Question: How did CASTO Chapter 3 do at the San Diego Country Fair this year? Answer: It went well; a $100 award was received. |

OLD BUSINESS: Our new SDIC President, Diane Turner, wanted everyone to know that the purpose of SDIC meetings was to pass on information to each other. If you have a question, want to know more about a particular topic or have ideas on a topic to please feel free to email her. She reminded us there are no bad questions and will honor your anonymity if that’s what you want. Your questions, suggestions and participation will help to make us all more informed and our industry stronger. Anna Borges read the letter that was written on behalf SDIC to CDE, on May 12, 2006, for more clarification on instructor’s failure to maintain DL-51. Jeannette Ford read the response letter from John Green. John Green reminded us that if we are going to be true leaders than we must lead by example. This is why we are held to higher standards. Along with the response letter from CDE a copy of Instructor
Recertification Procedure was handed out. |

GOOD OF THE ORDER: Question: What is our stand if CDE teaches us one way and CHP wants us to do something different? Or different documentation? Answer: Anna Borges responded with, we could write a letter to the Commander of the CHP Division Motor Vehicle section that we are being told to violate the law. And to also cc a copy to her so she knows what’s going on. Question: Will the first aid test change? Answer: No (not this time) Question: When can we expect the new posters on the 12’ Danger Zone? Answer: It is unknown when the posters will be out but there is no harm in teaching the 12’ Danger Zone now. |
