San Diego Democrats for Disability Rights Meeting Minutes Meeting Date and Time: July 17, 2004, 1:00PM ? 3:30PM Meeting Location: 4283 El Cajon Blvd., Room 220-A, San Diego, CA 1. Call to Order-11 members present, introductions (20 mins) 2. Meeting Protocol -Need to set up a contact tree to ensure evvery member gets contacted/materials needed -Need a timekeeper, name tags -Agenda approved by all present 4. Website, Email, Yahoo Group (ended up being 35 mins) -Review of website procedure (do not give oout personal info when signing up for acct) -Addition of links to Nat?l Democratic Partty, local branches and other resources was suggested (on all SDDDR websites) 5. Approval of Bylaws - Bylaws were reviewed in detail at previouus meeting, June 5, 2004. All revisions were unanimously approved by members present. - Revised bylaws were submitted for review and approval to the all voting members by email and postal mail to members who do not have access to email on Saturday, June 5, 2004. Voting was closed on Sunday, June 13, 2004. - Bylaws were ratified and approved unanimoously by all members who voted. - All agreed to accept Bylaws as written, mmay have future revisions (re: Member-At-Large) 6. Club Officer Election Results-14 members voted -Not all members received a ballot: 1 addeed at meeting, 2 voted at meeting Final results: President-John Johnson, Vice President-Betty Bacon, Secretary-Alisa Shuman, Treasurer-Linda Hermanson(accepted 1 of 2 positions). It was agreed to offer Michelle Krug the Member-At-Large position; if she declines then the position will be reopened to vote. Michelle came to meeting late and accepted position of Member-at-Large. 7. Bylaw Revisions ? -(ADDITION) for purposes of emergency, if tthe Treasurer is incapable of signing a check for whatever reason, a member of the Executive Board shall sign amounts of less than $100 - checks for amounts of $100 or more have tto be approved by a majority of the Executive Board. 8. Charter Membership -$36 to register in San Diego, Linda will ccontact Jessie Durfee (Pres of SD Democratic Party) to set up an account and create a business ID (Johnson will give contact info to Linda) -all agreed to pay $36 to register 10. Brainstorm Club Activities, Committees, & Priorities (Members will finalize brainstorming at next meeting, time/place specific, show list 8/7/04) -Week of Democratic Convention should do soomething (7/26-7/30), i.e. house parties, cocktail parties, coffee/tea time with invited speaker (Coffee Clutch-Jewish term?) -Focus on Swing Voter (set up booths at Wall-Mart) -SD Central Committee and Labor (Clairmont)) are throwing a combined party at Int?l Brotherhood of Electrical Brothers -Leslie Devoney/Mike Aguirre? educate them on issues?, throw at Betty?s house -More outreach to undecided voters (focus oon religious organizations)-calling party -College student registration, SDSU Young DDemocratics Group (contact Student Life Office) -Contact Disability Student Organizations -Have voter registration forms available att various offices, ILCs -Move-On house parties, 1 accessible house available -Combine with other established disability groups/other political groups -Street Fairs, Paradise Hills 8/14, Encantoo 8/21, Del Mar Racetracks -Bring speakers to meetings -SeaWorld, Zoo -Council of Clubs, subscribe to The Direct Newsletter and get our group listed/press release 12. Member Comments Mike (combine forces with Black Mtn Club?), Pro-Aguirre/Busby Linda (needs help recruiting agencies/groups) Noel (all members/nonmembers should be welcome to join the meetings) John (all members need to be present at various events to show presence and force of Disability Community) Michelle (need to attend meetings of other disability political groups and get connected) Harriet (Dr. Justin Clark wrote Bush On The Couch) 13.
