San Diego Democrats for Disability Rights
June 5, 2004

Members present: Pam Abbott, Betty Bacon, Michael Conroy, Linda 
Hermanson, John Johnson, David Juare, Michelle 
Krug, Noel Neudeck, Tom Downs, Inge, 

Meeting was called to order at 1:45. John reminded members that we have 
buttons and bumper stickers for sale as fund raisers. Suggested price is 
$1.00 for buttons, $2.00 for bumper stickers

John extended a special thank you to Noel, for getting the meeting 
announced in the Union Tribune, and to Linda Hermanson for sending out 
a mailer to a number of agencies and organizations.

Protocol was discussed.  Since there are so many issues we need to 
address, it is important that we treat each other with respect and kindness.  
The Golden Rule applies:  "Do unto others as you would have them do unto 
you."

Agenda was amended to add a time for "member comment" (Noel), and 
then approved.

Bylaws were reviewed section by section.  The final draft is attached for 
your review, comments, and vote.  Substantive changes include:  
?	Allowing for a proxy vote
?	Allow voting by email, phone, in writing, and personal communication
?	Adding a member-at-large to the executive committee
?	Eliminating a nominating committee
?	Eliminating the requirement for a secret ballot (in order to allow for 
email voting, etc.)
?	Agenda to be distributed five days before the meeting
?	Executive committee to establish operating procedures and share 
with general membership
?	Standing committees to be established by the membership as 
needed

Ratification of Bylaws.  This draft of the bylaws will go out on Saturday, 6-5-
04 to all members, and will be posted on the web site.  Voting on bylaws 
will close on Sunday, 6-13-04.

Nominations for officers will open on Monday, 6-14-04.  Members may 
nominate themselves, or another member in good standing who has 
agreed to accept the nomination.  Nominations will close on Sunday, 6-20-
04. 

Voting for officers will open on Monday, 6-21-04 and close on the following 
Monday, 6-28-04.  The results will be announced on Wednesday, 6-30-04.

The group discussed sharing email addresses and phone numbers with 
other members.

Announcements.  Michelle is putting together a candidates forum for the 
Late Deafened Adults Club on September 25, 2004.

Californians for Disability Rights will hold its next meeting on Monday, June 
14, 2004 at 6:30 at the Coco's Restaurant, 2644 El Cajon Blvd

Meeting was adjourned at 3:45. Next meeting will be Saturday, July 17, 
2004 at 4283 El Cajon Blvd at 1:00.
