To Venus' Son
(May 18, 2005)
I saw you, you winged
Angel-devil being; you
Floated there with that malicious-loving
Upward crease of the lips,
And the glow in your beady,
Flashing, acute red eyes. Your wings,
Feathered, blanched, satin,
Fluttered about in the air,
Keeping you above mankind.
You saw the way I looked at her,
She was a friend, not a lover.
I am a man, and a man with a woman
May just be friends, acquaintances,
But lovers - not we! Not I with her,
At least until the thought
Entered your wild mischievous mind,
That supernatural interference
May now be of use.
You flew high above her,
I saw you there,
I looked at my friend, eyes met, we smiled,
But expected not to find
That the same smile that we had conveyed,
Exchanged, traded, transferred through
The medium of our friendship,
Would mean more than I ever
Wildly imagined it to be.
You pulled on heartstrings, the bow
On which the tension increased
With every second, moment, that passed,
You then found your mark,
Your aim was true the arrow flew true,
Struck far and deep,
Straight through my heart, then vanished,
My friend saw it not, nor anyone else.
The pain of the arrow arrived
Almost in an instant after you struck,
Few seconds after, my heart throbbed,
Pulse beat rapid, my face warm,
I felt not myself; something changed,
Had she noticed this?
She looked at me in a glance,
Asking, pondering, if I was all well.
And suddenly , wonderfully, rapidly so
Did I realize her wonderful voice.
She spoke like an angel, a ringing,
Clear, pure-sounding note of eternal beauty,
Why did I now notice this?
You stood above watching,
Beckoning me to approach,
And approach I did for driven was I
To be near the lady with regard high
Held I. Was this the effect of your arrow?
The shaft must have left a splinter -
A tiny shard of supernatural power,
An ebony wonder
Inside my heart, for I could not, did not
Control my urge.
I was now beside her
I looked up. You stayed there
Saying nothing, but showing
Through mild and subtle gestures
That I should act now and
Show her the newly found
Feelings of emotion towards her.
Most gently I placed a hand of mine
Upon her shoulder my eyes told her all.
And then those most beautiful spheres
Looked right back to me
Like I to her. Did she love me back?
As if to answer the question
Her head leaned slowly forward,
And rested beside mine, on shoulder.
She whispered words of wondrous beauty,
Love, devotion. I heard them,
And my head rose and fell as I
Acknowledged the words. She smiled
Not showing the luminous pearly teeth,
But a simple smile,
To tell me everything.
You, the Son of Venus,
Saw her lean forward, and
Place her arms so gracefully around me.
I felt the emanating, wonderful
Perfume she wore, I was intoxicated,
Entranced, ecstatic, joyful.
And then quietly and quickly,
Her ruby red lips merged, collided, gently
With mine. O, did I rise
To immeasurable levels into the clouds
Of heaven. O, how I wanted to remain!
I looked up to you, my bright smile showing.
You were still there, and you did return it.
With that, and that only, I expressed my thanks
For that great act of godly interference.
My love looked up, to inquire
Of what had recently captured my sight.
But she saw nothing, for he had gone.
No longer needed in this human affair,
But always to remain in heart and mind.
