In Memory of Mr. Philemon Samson
who died Sept. ye 6th, 1756 in ye 36th year of his age

Born in Plympton, Sept. 12, 1720, the son of Benjamin and Margaret (Parker) Samson, Philemon Samson married May 12, 1742, RACHEL STANDISH, was the daughter of Moses Standish and Rachel Cobb, and thus a Descendant of Myles Standish, John Alden and George Soule. Philemon Samson was a "yeoman," and passed his life in his native town of Plympton, where he died, Sept. 6, 1756, "age 36 years, 3 mos., 13 days" according to his headstone in Plympton's Old Burial Grounds. His widow Rachel m. Oct. 25, 1759, Amos Fuller of Plympton, for her second husband, and she was his second wife. By him she had two sons, Amos and Philemon Fuller. Amos Fuller was guardian to her seven children by her first husband Philemon Samson: Philemon Jr., Newland, Sarah, Lydia, Moses, Benjamin, and Jeremiah. Rachel (Standish) (Samson) Fuller died Oct. 13, 1809, "age 83 years, 5 mos., 8 days, by New Style."
