Elizabeth (Sprague) Samson (1658-1727), the wife of George Samson Sr, was the mother of ten known children and thus the ancestress of many Sam(p)son families across the country. George and Elizabeth Samson were one of the first families to settle Plympton which was originally a part of Plymouth, formed into a Society in 1695, and incorporated as a town in 1707. George and Elizabeth lived in a house which stood on the site of the house afterwards owned and occupied by their great-grandson, George5 Sampson; and also by Joseph6 Sampson, son of the latter. It was the first dwelling-house north from the Plympton Woolen Factory, on the west side of the road. The Plympton Woolen Factory was situated on the lowermost mill-dam on the Winnetuxet River, in Plympton. Elizabeth Samson was one of the original members of the Church in Plympton; formed, 1698. She died May 27, 1727, age 71. George Samson died July 26, 1739, age 85. He and his wife were buried in the Old Cemetery in Plympton, near its northerly side. Daughter of John & Ruth (Basset) Sprague,
and grand-daughter of Francis Sprague who arrived in Plymouth Colony in 1623 on the great, good ship "Anne".
