SD592 is a software design tool for public address systems.

A Summary Of SD592 Program Options

How many horns . . . ?

This option can be used to evaluate quantity and type of horn(s) that can be used to provide sound coverage to a square or rectangular area. It can also be used to determine what horn spacing may be used based upon the mounting height and ambient noise level.

How many ceiling speakers . . . ?

This option can be used to evaluate quantity of ceiling type speakers that can be used to provide sound coverage to a square or rectangular area. It can also be used to determine if the sound level from those speakers will be adequate based upon mounting height and ambient noise level.

What size wire - how many self amplified spkrs on wire size ?

This option can be used to determine the wire size required for the power and audio wiring of a self amplified speaker wire run.

What's the dBspl at ___ feet ? (Inverse Square Law)

This option can be used to determine the level of sound that will be present at a specified distance directly in front of a sound source.

What's the dBspl at ___ feet ? (w/ horn angle considered)

This option can be used to determine the level of sound that will be present at a specified horizontal distance directly in front of an angled horn.

If the area is ? dBspl, how far will a horn's sound reach ?

This option can be used to determine the distance in feet in front of a horn that will result in a specific sound level over the ambient noise based upon mounting height ambient noise level and horn output level. Maximum acceptable horn output level is suggested by the program based upon a maximum dBspl over ambient input value.

How far, directly in front of a sound source, will ___ dBspl occur ?

This option can be used to determine the distance directly in front of a sound source that will result in a specific sound level.

Ohm's Law

This option performs calculations based upon manipulations of Ohm's Law (Voltage = Current x Resistance).

How does power ratio relate to dBm ?

This option performs dBm vs power calculations.

Wire pair calculations

This option offers the following options:

1) FIND THE RESISTANCE OF A CERTAIN LENGTH OF WIRE

2) FIND THE RESISTANCE OF A CERTAIN LENGTH OF ALL AWGS

3) FIND THE WIRE DISTANCE ASSOCIATED WITH A VALUE OF RESISTANCE

4) FIND MINIMUM AWG PAIR FROM RESISTANCE AND DISTANCE

5) EVALUATE TWISTING MULTIPLE PAIRS OF WIRE TOGETHER

Unit of measure conversions

This option performs a myriad of unit of measure conversions (feet to meters, etc).

Based on the scale, how many inches is ___ feet ? (Blueprints)

This option answers the following kind of questions for determining distances on blueprints:

IF 1 INCHES = 3 2/5 FEET, HOW MANY INCHES = 10 1/2 FEET ?

IF 2 7/8 INCHES = 15 1/2 FEET, HOW MANY FEET DOES 25 INCHES

REPRESENT ?

IF 1 1/4 INCHES = 3 2/5 FEET, WHAT'S THE ONE INCH SCALE ?

Based on the square footage, what's the scale ? (Blueprints)

If you have a scaled drawing of a square or rectangular area, and you know the square footage that the scaled drawing represents, this option can be used to determine the length, width and scale of the area.

MANUAL.PDF is the manual for SD592. This is a 38 page ADOBE ACROBAT document and requires the ADOBE ACROBAT reader available from www.adobe.com (ar302.exe).

The horn layout portion of the program defaults to the

following horn spacing:

The spacing, and therefore the number of horns, selected by the program is a suggestion and may be easily altered simply entering a new desired spacing on the resulting configuration screen. To increase intelligibility of voice page in reverberant areas, horns should be mounted closer to the people being paged, in effect, mounted at a lower height and closer together.
