mcgowan camp
Our meeting on SEPTEMBER 20, 2007 will be held @ the VFW on East Main Street in Laurens.  There will be no meal served.

We will be discussing our plans for raising money for our monument that will be placed at SPOTSYLVANIA COURT HOUSE, VIRGINIA, please be thinking about ideas to raise $$$$$. We have sent our plans for the monument to the NMP in Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania to be approved and then furthered to the Department of the Interior in Washington, D. C.  We will also be bringing up the price of the monument at this time and also some important information concerning the camp.  I HOPE EVERYONE WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE AT THIS MEETING !!!!!!!

DEO VINDICE,  Commander Gary Lee Davis

McGowan Camp compatriots,

By now I hope all have heard of our new meeting location !!  We will be meeting at the Laurens VFW on East Main Street, in the downstairs part of the building.  Park around behind the building, there is plenty of parking space.  Bring a friend, neighbor, co-worker, or family member with you.

We will have an excellent program by our Division Chaplain, Ed Westbury, who is also currently Commander of the Kershaw Camp in Camden.  Ed's program will be Black Confederates.  he'll have information we all need to know and use.

I will not be at the meeting, because I will be speaking to the Walker-Gaston Camp in Chester that night.  I'll miss y'all and will take greetings from the McGowan men to Chester. Hope all of you make a special effort to make it to our meeting on the 20th, show our Division Chaplain the strength of the McGowan Camp, and "break-in" our new meeting place with a rousing rendition of "Dixie"

To live and die in Dixie,

Robert Roper, III
Lt. Cdr.

There will be a cemetery workday on September 22nd. Please plan to meet with us behind Verdin's Farm and Garden for a few hours of friendship and dedication to the Charge. We are going to be placing some stones at a church cemetery just south of Laurens that boasts a goodly number of Confederate graves. I plan to be pulling out of the parking lot at 9:00 AM.  Please join us. As always, feel free to contact David Tillman at david's number for information relating to participating in this worthwhile effort at preserving our ancestor's memory.

Information about South Carolina laws pertaining to Cemeterys is available on our camp web page.

The Promises We Have

As we are in this world today many problems prevail. many times wrong is  right according to some judgements. In some countries people are living in terrible conditions. Mistreated by dictator type of governments and other problems. But let us look at Johns writings in Revelation. 21 verses 4 and  5:

Verse 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall  be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away.

Verse 5  And he that sat upon the throne said Behold I make all things new, and He said WRITE, for these words  are true and faithful.

Let us remember the promises of our Lord forever.
