Our meeting  on OCTOBER 18, 2007 will be at the V F W on East Main Street in Laurens, starting at 6:45 P. M.  NO meal will be served.

I will be discussing my trip to Spotsylvania Court House, where I met with Frank Earnest, Virginia Division Commander and Lee Hart also of the Virginia Division and N. M. P. Historian Eric Mink about the placement of the MONUMENT TO McGOWAN’S BRIGADE at THE BLOODY ANGLE in the MULESHOE at SPOTSYLVANIA COURT HOUSE BATTLEFIELD.  I will also have pictures showing the site.

 I hope all camp members will attend this meeting.

McGowan Camp Compatriots,

Mark your calendars for October 18 when we'll meet at the Laurens VFW for our monthly meeting. Let's all make a good effort to be there and support the activities of the Camp. Bring a friend, family member, or neighbor with you, and remember the ladies are always welcome.

Our speaker this month is our Division Lt. Commander, Gene Hogan. Gene is a native of Traveler's Rest, a graduate of The Citadel, and has been active for years in the SCV. Gene is a good speaker and has won the annual oratory contest at the past two National Conventions.

We'll have more updates on our Spotsylvania monument project, too.

Our Cost     

Recently a cost analysis on  the war in Iraq spending. The tab came to 30 million dollars per hour. The  Iraquis show no interest in solving this problem when they shut down their  government for the month of September. How long can America carry on? As we look  at Psalm 1 we find assurance that the righteous will prevail. (note verse  6)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the  ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners,nor sitteth in the seat of the  scornful.

 But his delight is in the light of the law of the Lord and in his  law doeth he mediate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water ,that  bringeth forth his fruit in his season,his leaf also shall not wither, and  whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

The ungodly are not so:but are like the chaff which the wind driveth  away.

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgement, nor sinners  in the congregation of the righetous.

For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous,but the way of the  ungodly shall perish
