At long last, a dream of Gray Court-Owings Historical
Society President, Dianne Culbertson and Vice President, Sarah Jane Armstrong,
is becoming a reality.

A dozen men from the McGowan Camp and other compatriots
from Camp 36 in Greenville joined several volunteers from the Gray Court
area to begin the work of dismantling and moving the more than 200-year-old
Atwood cabin.

While most of the structure of the house that
was built around the cabin is in very poor condition, the cabin logs themselves
are in remarkable state, allowing them to be numbered sequentially for reconstructing
at a new location just a short distance away from the original site.

future since the process will take many months to complete.

In addition to the cabin restoration, the plans
include the moving of a barn on site and a portion of the rear of the house
to be used as a chapel The new site will be at the Gray Court city
cemetery on Georgia Road.
