mcgowan camp news
McGowan Camp Compatriots and friends,

Y'ALL COME !!!  to our McGowan Camp cookout on Thursday July 19, 6:30 pm.

It's our regular time and place, the American Legion building in Clinton, and we're having our cookout for members, families, neighbors, and especially anyone you'd like to bring and introduce to the SCV.

We won't have a program/speaker, but we'd like to hear from you about your Confederate ancestor. Most of us have family stories that we don't take enough time to share --- so if you want to, tell us about your family history. Doesn't have to be a long story, just share what you know.

As usual, we'll have grilled hamburgers, and plenty of 'em, so come hungry.

Please bring some chips, or dessert, or something else that will add to the meal.

IMPORTANT !!  Call Commander Davis and give him a head count, 'cause we need to know how many to prepare for.  Call Gary at 876-2995, or  313-2115 (cell).

Looking forward to seeing YOU on the 19th.

Little known fact from the Confederacy. In January of 1864 Gabriel Raines, an  explosives expert, entered Jefferson Davis' office with a secret weapon. It was an explosive device fabricated to look like a piece of coal. If it got in a ships  boiler it would be devasting. Jefferson Davis said build some of them. The first  ship to fall victim to this new weapon was a captured blockade runner the  Greyhound. The new weapon gave a triple whammy the explosive, the boiler pressure and the scalding water. We do not know how many ships were sunk this way but it got some ships. The Feds began to wonder about these kind of explosions and  finally realized it was in the fuel. Then they posted guards 24/7 on  the coal barges. So we see more smart men in the Confederacy. Good job  men.

We have just celebreted out nations birthday. God has blessed America.not  because we deserved it but because of his mercy and grace. Our hope is not  anchored in our government but in our God. there is a need across our land for  repentance and revival. Let us remember II Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which  are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Irvin Berlin an American composer of popular  songs, born in Russia and educated in New York. wrote God Bless America in the  world war I era but did not release it till WWII (the U.S. was in WWI  only 19 months.) This song was a hit song and Kate Smith did a special job as she  sang this song. Americans paused and listened. May our prayers still be GOD  BLESS AMERICA.
