| Surrender
means that the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy;
that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers their version
of the War; will be impressed by all the influences of history and education
to regard our gallant dead as traitors, and our maimed veterans as fit subjects
for derision. - PATRICK CLEBURNE Please take this to heart because without our continued support of our ancestors; our grandchildren will never know the truth. |
| [Sherman's] line of march
can be traced by the lurid light of burning houses, and in more than one
household there is now an agony far more bitter than that of death. - WADE HAMPTON |
