mcgowan camp
Our meeting on  February 15, 2007 will begin at 6:30 in the Laurens County Library. According to Robert Roper our speaker will be ROY VANDEGRIFT, from the M.L. Bonham camp, who will be  speaking about the 'CSS DAVID',  the Confederate torpedo boat built in Charleston.

Starting in February we will be starting a push towards our final goal of the MONUMENT to McGOWAN'S BRIGADE at SPOTSYLVANIA COURTHOUSE on MAY 12, 2008!!  We have several committees that we need members to volunteer to be on and if we don’t then we will go down our roster and give calls to our compatriots nominating them!!  Remember February 6th is General J.E.B. Stuart’s birthday, he was born in 1833,  and let’s all forget who’s birthday is on the 12th.

Let’s not forget the 2007 SOUTH CAROLINA DIVISION CONVENTION IN MOUNT PLEASANT on 16-17 March 2007.  You can go to web site, http://www.scv27.org/convention. Cost is $50.00 before February 15th.  If anyone is going by themselves and would like to share the trip and costs with someone else please bring this up at our meeting.  I hope to see everyone at the meeting.  Deo Vindice,  Commander Gary Lee Davis

The quartermaster table will be open for business at this month's meeting. We had a nice sales of merchandise last month so look forward to spending your tax refund check this month. We will have a raffle of a Confederate officer's sword ( replica) this month so be prepared to bring your money for a ticket. All proceeds from the quartermaster table go directly into our camp funds to help with our projects and expenses so support our camp.Ludie Watkins, Quartermaster

Chaplin's Comments by  Allen Young: Vision and Idealism

Your heritage is one of great vision and idealism. We look about us today  in America and ask the question what about our own nation and the world today?  The tragedy is that we are almost poverty stricken for real idealism and genuine  vision. For instance literature very few things written today will abide the  test of time and stand as monuments to our generation. It has been said that the  average novel written today you have to read through a mile of garbarge to find  just one tiny spoonful of something that is worthwile. Look at the music no  melody no tune just a beat. How much of this will stand the test of time?

A recent survey found that 86% of the people  belive there is a God. Where is that 86% when Christianity is under attack? The  Ten Commandments (down south) have to be removed from certain places. At the  supreme court building as you walk up the steps near the top of the building is  Moses holding the Ten Commandments. Then inside where the judges sit is a  display of the  Ten Commandments. Every session of congress begins with a  prayer by a paid preacher.(paid by taxpayers) How have we got to the place where  things we have done for centuries is suddenly wrong? Wake up and stand tall the 86%, if we don't the 14% will rule everything. Speak out now.
