| This month's meeting will be at
the Watts House in Laurens, on Thursday February 17th. Supper starts at 6:30,
hot dogs and chips. See you there! |
As I mentioned at our January meeting, the SCV
has several opportunities coming up, beginning with the Battle of Aiken at
2:00 Sat and Sun the 26th and 27th of Feb. This is sponsored by our fellow
SCV camp the Barnard E Bee Camp in Aiken. The "battle" will be off I-20 at
exit 18. This is the largest reenactment in our state. The Bee camp has just
purchased 12 more acres of land and their camp now owns 100 acres.
SCV Convention is April 1 and 2 in Florence. I have the registration forms. Operation Roundup to get and keep our SCV members in camp and active is now in full swing. Let's have eveyone bring a friend or relative to our meeting and have a good turnout for our guest speaker. Our camp is still looking at some campwide projects. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Our Lt Cmd Gary Davis is taking the bull (or bear) by the horns and will be letting you know about the teddy bear project. Kudos to our own campmember (and Senator) Danny Verdin for help sponsor a bill to allow SCV tag purchase money to be refunded back to the SCV. At last count, the State was holding about $16,000 of OUR money! Those of you who are outside Laurens County please contact your local representative to get their support of this bill. See you Thursday!! |
Our guest speaker on February 17th will be Mr.
Jack Marlar who has been a jack of all titles in the SCV ranging from Commander
of ANV, SC Division Commander to national SCV Field Representative.
Jack will be talking on Artillery Projectiles and Fusing Systems.
We will be having a stuffed animal drive this month with all animals collected being given to the Laurens County Sheriffs Department for distribution to tramatized children, please help us with this project. Confederate question of the month: Which Southern General made such an impression that both Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson and Robert E. Lee called him when they were dying?????? See me for the answer if you don't know!!!!! South Carolina Division meeting will be in Florence on April 1st and 2nd, 2005, we have registration forms for those interested in going. National GEC meeting will be held in Atlanta on 19th February, lets have a big turn out to support CIC Denne Sweeney and National Field Representative Jack Marlar. Remember to always remain true to our Southern heritage because if we don't pass it on to the next generations it will forever be lost!!!!!!! |
