South Carolina Division Lt. Commander Michael Givens will join us and address our group.  Lt. Commander Givens is a candidate for SC Division Commander, to be determined at the March 20th annual convention in Greenville. (Please review all candidate qualifications in the attachment to this newsletter.)

We will allocate some time during the February meeting to inform the Camp membership of the proceedings and election process for the Division convention and will begin the selection of delegates who will represent us there.  It is important that everyone be in attendance for this regular meeting.  Your input and participation is requested.

AMENDMENTS TO the CONSTITUTION
Three amendments have been presented to the South Carolina Division Chief of Staff for consideration and vote at the March Convention.  These amendments were prepared by and submitted by Immediate Past Division Commander, Max Jackson.

1.    Article VII, section 3 – Division Adjutant.
The amendment proposes to add the office of Treasurer and reduce the work load of Adjutant, creating 2 separate functions.

2.    Article VIII, section 1 – Division Executive Council.
This amendment proposes to add the Division treasurer as a voting member of the Division Executive Council.

3.    Article XVII, section 1 – Standing Committees
This amendment proposes to create the Commanders Advisory Committee utilizing all past Division Commanders (in good standing) as an advisory group to the current presiding Commander.

Any questions and concerns regarding these amendments can be brought before the camp for open discussion at the February and/or March meetings.

NEW ASSOCIATE MEMBER
A Special Welcome to McGowan Camp Associate Member, Don Dulkoski………Don resides in Dyer, Indiana and is a personal friend and business associate of Commander Simpson.  He and his wife Carissa, made a trip to Laurens in the Spring of 2002 for the funeral of Captain William Farley and were impressed with the hospitality and sense of pride shown by South Carolinians and the men of the McGowan Camp.  According to our Constitution and by laws, the camp may accept Associate members who do not otherwise qualify ancestrally to join the SCV, but share a pronounced interest and support for the goals and objectives of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.  It is an extreme pleasure and honor to welcome him into our camp as an Associate Member and I look forward to his visit in April as he will join us in Charleston for the final salute and interment of the crew of the C.S.S. Hunley.
