| ATWOOD CABIN UPDATE |

The Atwood Cabin has been completely disassembled
and Diane sends her thanks to all of the compatriots of the McGowan Camp
who participated. The restoration and reassembly will be scheduled
in the near term and an announcement will follow so that we may again share
some muscle and help see the project through to completion.
In addition to moving the cabin, the Historical Society also plans to relocate the Pole barn and Chapel structure to the Georgia Road site. They are in need of funds for the project so if you can assist financially make your checks payable to the: Gray Court-Owings Historical Society 1945 Mt. Carmel Road Gray Court, SC 29645 Attention: Rose Blackstone, Treasurer The historical society is a 501( c ) (3) organization and all donations are TAX-DEDUCTIBLE. Funds will be used in the following manner: LOG HOUSE AND BARN Labor, heavy equipment rental, supplies, relocating timbers, replacement timbers, replacement boards for casings, doors, shutters, stairs, etc, stone masonry (Fireplace), flooring boards, chinking and wood preservative. |
CHAPEL AND ONE ROOM SCHOOL
House moving equipment PIONEER DAYS Plans are underway for a festival to be held in Owings on SEPTEMBER 20, 2003 entitled “Pioneer Day.” A parade will be held at 10:00 a.m. and the community, schools, churches and other organizations, including the Sons of Confederate Veterans are invited to be a part of the festival. Living history reenactors are invited to portray life in the 1800’s. Plan to attend wearing uniforms or period dress, or just come and be a part of remembering history. Artists and craftsmen will be demonstrating their work. Food will be available and music groups will perform for your hearts delight. An old time hymn singing will be held at the Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. and Diane invites us all to attend and join in. |
