Our program for August will feature Compatriot Al Robinson from the Norton
Camp in Seneca. Al will be presenting a program on General Robert E. Lee,
focusing on his years after the war. Since this year we celebrate Lee's 200th
birthday, we should make a special effort to come and learn more about him.
It is General Lee's sterling character and virtues we should all strive to
emulate.
Our Spotsylvania monument project "package" is just about ready to be sent to the Park Service in Fredericksburg, and probably will be by our meeting date. The monument company has the drawings, and as soon as they give us some pricing info, we'll send the "package". Included will be the architects drawings, a letter detailing the design and features, a letter detailing our fundraising plans, the resolution of support for the project as passed by both houses of the SC Legislature, and a letter of support fro Congrssman Gresham Barrett. See y'all on the 16th!!! Robert Roper

| There will not be a
cemetery workday on our regularly scheduled Saturday following our monthly
meeting. That being said, we have so far this month set out six monuments
on the graves of Laurens County Confederate soldiers, and hopefully by the
time you read this, there should be at least six more placed. Never know
when we are out there working... It's no secret, if you want to help, call
David Tillman (864-575-2464) or Commander Davis and git in on it. Schedules
are flexible, even if our old bones and muscles ain't. We will get it done.
The South Carolina Sons Of Confederate Veterans Division is moving on with a project to register all Confederate graves of South Carolina soldiers. We are in the formative stages of this, and need your prayers for wisdom. This promises to be an extremely rewarding, and sorely needed undertaking that will benefit current and future generations of Southland-Lovin' people everywhere. As details unfold, it would be greatly appreciated if everyone would give their utmost cooperation in making this a successful venture. Our ancestor's burial sites are slowly being attacked by both natural, (time, weather, overgrowth, etc), and unnatural, (indifference, vandalism, development, political correctness, etc.) forces. It is our responsibility, (read The Charge), to ensure that our - your - ancestor's memory is not forgotten. Please participate whenever you can to preserve the resting places of Confederate soldiers---it is what we are supposed to be about!! David Tillman

War has always been a high cost
game. How nice it would be if the dollars spent on war could be used for
peacetime uses such as medical coverage and more funding for the social security
syatem where all Americans would benefit. In addition to the material cost
we have the heartaches, bloodshed and the loss of life. The Government Accountability
Office report recently listed the following war machines in Iraq: 24,000
Humvees, 1237 tanks, 3282 heavy trucks, 912 trailer trucks, 536 helicopters
and also 160.000 troops. Even to withdraw would take a long time just to
move out. Can you visualize this much men and material not including the
fuel? It is time we should turn to Micah chap 4 verses 2 and 3:
