2003 State Convention - Charleston, SC

Commander Simpson

The South Carolina Division annual convention was held on board the historic USS Yorktown at Patriot’s Point in Charleston during the weekend of March 14 and 15.

Secession Camp # 4 hosted the convention under the Direction of Commander Ed Moon.   Congratulations to all their compatriots for an excellent job, well done!

The Charleston Camp arranged an oyster roast on Friday evening and a BarBQ on Saturday night at the Lasch Observatory where the Hunley resides during its restoration Groups of about 20 were allowed tours for a first hand look at the famous Confederate submarine C.S.S. Hunley..

Many of the artifacts discovered on board, including Lt. George Dixon’s gold coin were displayed for viewing.

Plan for the interment of the 8-member crew is November 17, 2003 at the Magnolia cemetery in Charleston.  Mark your calendars and let’s all plan to attend this momentous ceremony for the men who braved the cold waters of Charleston Harbor and etched their names forever into American History.  They are deserving of the honor of our presence.
