TimeLight

a journey into the past

By Stan Clardy

In a future where heritage is outlawed and history is corrupted, three men take a desperate and dangerous chance. They will travel into the past in an attempt to save the future and the last remnants of their Southern birthright. They journey to Charleston, South Carolina, to aid the builders and crew of the H.L. Hunley, a Confederate submarine which may hold the key to victory for the Southern cause. Along the way they make an unexpected discovery as they uncover the truths of a history that has been hidden from them and their society.

This story is inspired by the mysteries surrounding the Hunley,

a ship known only in legend for more than a century, and now, a reality.

From the man who brought you the educational one man play and music

"Soldiers in Gray, A Musical Journey", plus the music of "Southern Stars" and

"God Save The South", now Stan Clardy has written an

exciting and moving book of that period in history.

"TimeLight, a journey into the past" is a fictional historical account about the Confederate submarine H. L. Hunley  the War Between the States and the siege of Charleston during 1863 - 1864. Though the five main characters are fictional, they are involved with real historical figures, such as; General Beauregard, Horace Hunley, George Dixon and others involved in the historic submarine.

When people have an emotional attachment to an event, that can result in an even greater interest. TimeLight has romance, humor, adventure, historic events, science fiction, and most importantly the story of the brave people who fought for their land, their freedom and their homes.

Stan loves creating music for that period in time, and he will have available a cd of music inspired by the book.

A little snippit of the book...... some parts of this snippit were taken out to enhance the mystery of the book!

It was a short drive to the museum, but as they went on, the conversation in the car faded into silence as they pondered what they were about to see. At the entrance to the museum, a blue lantern was burning, symbolic of the light which the Hunley shone on the night of its fateful, last mission. The three paid their admission and made their way through the exhibits, which told the story of the sub and its construction as well as its time in Charleston. At last they entered the room, which housed the sub itself. It had taken many years of work to remove the century of encrustations which had formed on the side of the sunken ship, but now the little submarine sat on display, looking much as it did when Henry last saw it in the workshop. They were able to walk around the sub and view it from all sides, ......... Several of the hull plates had been removed to allow the archaeological teams access to the interior. Some of these were left off, allowing the public to see the restored interior of the craft.

Nearby, in glass display cases were several artifacts from the crewmembers. Here was Dixon’s gold pocket watch which Henry had seen him use so many times, as well as the gold coin which his fiancιe had given him as a good luck piece, and a gold broach and ring, which Dixon must have intended to give to Queenie on his return to Mobile; a trip which sadly, he never made. Also displayed, to their surprise was the identification tag bearing the name of a union soldier. He was at a loss to explain how such an item could have found its way onto the Hunley, proving that the ship was still holding on to its mysteries even after all these many years.

The interactive exhibits were amazingly informative, but that was not what he wanted to see. He knew the history of the sub; he was a part of it! He tried to prepare himself for the visit to the Hall of Honor, where the likenesses of the crewmen were on display. ......... Small spotlights shone on the busts of the crewmen. They were amazingly detailed, a tribute to the forensic scientists who had labored to show the faces of these brave men, lost for so many years.

There was Dixon, the sub's commander. The expression on his face was one of confident determination, a look seen so many times before. The re-creation was so lifelike that you almost expected Dixon to speak to him. Good to see you again! Glad you came to visit! On down the line of faces they went.

They had been standing there for quite some time when one of the museum workers came up to them. "Are you folks okay?" the man asked gently. "Oh..uhh..yes.. we just got a little emotional there for a while." "I understand completely," the man said. "I see it all the time, especially here! It gets to me too, even after all this time. This is a very...special place for all of us here. It's a reminder of why we do this." The man turned to look at the busts of the crewmen, and as he did, they could see that there were tears in his eyes as well. "It's for them," he said, "for all those who came before us, for their courage and their sacrifice. They weren't afraid to give their all for what they believed in, it's the least we can do to honor them, and never forget them, and make sure that generations to come know about what they did, and the real reasons why!”
