The McGowan Camp has actively pursued the restoration and replacement of a number of graves of Laurens County Confederate veterans over the past several years. Initially, this was the vision and hard work of McGowan Camp compatriot, Cliff McKinney, but many camp members have participated in the hard and gratifying work. David Tillman usually co-ordinates the work these days, and during the past several years the Camp has placed several hundred VA markers on the graves of the more than 1800 Laurens County soldiers. Says David: "Everyone, no matter the age, health, physical condition, or political inclination (maybe)  is invited. The last time we did this, my nearly 5 year old grandson even assisted by tamping in dirt at the base of the marker, and carrying in/out tools! You can do it too---just show up."

Cemetery work days are often scheduled for the Saturday after the McGowan Camp's Monthly third-Thursday meetings, see the camp newsletter for details.
