Confederate Units from Claiborne Parish

Claiborne Invincibles: Co K 17th La Inf. Captains, W.A. Mattox and Gabriel M Kilgore. Entered at Camp Moore Sept 8, 1862. Fought at the Battle of Shiloh April 6&7 1862. Where a part of the Siege of Vicksburg and were surrendered July 4, 1863.In January 1864 the men reformed at went to Pineville and Joined Gen Allen Thomas' Brigade.Disbanded in Mansfield on May 19 1865.

Claiborne Invinvibles: Co D 28th La Inf. V Captain Marcus O Cheatham. The men were a part of Gen Richard Taylor's Army of Trans-Mississippi. They fought in many battles within Louisiana such as Miliken's Bend and Irish Bayou. They helped lead the charge at the Battle of Mansfield that routed the yankee invaders.

Claiborne Greys: Co D 19th La Infantry, Captains, Winfrey B Scott and Morris Miller.
Claiborne Volunteers: Co C 19th La Inf, Captains, Hyder A Kennedy and SA Hightower
This regiment was organized November 19, 1861 at Camp Moore.They fought at Shiloh and Farmington receiving heavy losses. They were engaged heavily at Missionary Ridge, Ezra Church, Jonesboro and Nashville.Their last Battle was Spanish Fort, Al. They were surrendered in Gainesville Al May 8, 1865

Claiborne Guards: Co L 12th La Infantry,Captains, Issac L Leonard, Noel L Nelson,Robert A Crow, Benjamin F Hargrove and James J Crow
This regiment was organized at Camp Moore August 13, 1861.These men fought at Corinth, Baker's Creek,Kennesaw Mountain,Peachtree Creek, Franklin, Nashville and Bentonville.This was the largest regiment from La with 1,457 men, 606 of which died during the war.

Claiborne Guards: Co F 2nd La Infantry,Captains, John W Andrews and A S Blythe
Organized at Camp Moore on November 19, 1861.They fought at Shiloh losing one fifth of their total strength.They eventually became part of the La Brigade in the Army of Tennessee.While engaged at Chickamauga they lost about one third of their strength. They repulsed several attacks at Missionary Ridge. During the Atlanta campaign they fought at Mill Creek Gap, Resaca and New Hope Church. They also were engaged at Nashville. They finished the war at Spanish Fort Al.

Claiborne Partisan Rangers:This company was a Cavalry unit first Captained by Richard L Capers, a resident of Homer. They went through many unit organizations and designations, as did most Cavalry units within the state. They eventually ended up in the 5th La Cavalry, of which Richard L Capers was the Colonel. They fought many skirmishes and did needed picket duty as well as scouting within the State of La.

Moore Fencibles: Co A 9th La Infantry, Captains, Richard L Capers, Rhydon Grigsby and Francis J Montgomery. The 9th La is one of the most highly regarded Regiments from La as well as in the entire Confederate Army. Their first Colonel was Richard Taylor, eventually 3 of their four Colonels became Generals. They were the cornerstone of the famed Louisiana Tiger Brigade in the Army of Northern Virginia and fought in all the major battles related to the ANV, finally surrendering at Appomattox Courthouse. Of the 1474 men who served with this regiment, 586 did not survive the War.
