| Orim Apiatan | ||||||||
| NAME: Orim Apiatan
AGE: 104. (By Elven standards, still a youth.) GENDER: Female. SPECIES: Elf, of the Cumkalla Elves. BIRTHPLACE: Every Elven mother chooses the place where she will bear her children. Orim's mother died when she was very young, so she doesn't know where she was born. Most likely, however, it is some secluded spot in the territory of the Cumkalla elves. HEIGHT: 5'5" WEIGHT: 118 lbs. soaking wet. HAIR: Short, boyish, has a way of getting in her eyes. Light brown. Grows quickly. EYES: Penetrating leaf-green. FAMILY Dead. Mother Tiraniel, daughter of Camthalion. Father Illuthe, son of Neruthe. Brother Selim. APPEARANCE: Like most elves, Orim is of average height and trim build, though she is somewhat smaller than her peers. As an oft-hunted outcast and a warrior, she has never found it prudent to be in anything but fighting shape. She is muscular in a lean, whippet-like way. Her decidedly unfeminine body has occasionally caused her to be mistaken for a boy or young man, a convenient fiction. When she was expelled from Nesse, both her ear-tips were amputated, although one was not entirely severed and so she was able to have it stitched back on. Both ears are pierced. Her face is rather severe, and rarely betrays emotion. An upside-down red triangle is painted on each cheek in semi-permanent dye which she must renew every few months. Orim is usually dressed in a linen tunic and flexible Elven leather sandals or boots, depending on the weather. Over the tunic she wears leather armor consisting of a reinforced shirt and breeches. She carries a longbow and quiver, a falchion, and a hunting knife. If it is colder she may also wear arm and leg wrappings and/or a light cloak. PETS/COMPANIONS: Elves, especially those of Orim's clan, are attuned to nature and its creatures. As such, Orim might be more likely to tame an animal as a pet than, say, a human or an angel, but she has a deep and abiding respect for the wild and would never remove one of its children against its will. That said, Orim has had a number of horses, but in the elven tradition sets them free after a year and a day of service. (She likes to think she is responsible for the reappearance of the herds of wild horses on the moors of Rhal. Said herds have a nasty tendency to break the faces of any Rhalese trainers who attempt to capture their herd-members.) WEAPON: As previously mentioned, Orim carries a longbow inscribed with an elven character that might translate to "Seeker." With this bow she is terrifyingly accurate. She also carries a falchion, with which she is proficient but not excellent. She also carries a very sharp hunting knife at all times, like any sensible traveller who has to pass through unfriendly lands. |

| FIGHTING STYLE: You might think of an elven warrior as a sylvan ninja. You won't
hear them if they don't want you to, and you won't see them until they jump out
of a tree onto your head. The Cumkalla elves are especially deadly, having such a
close bond with the trees that they can go for miles in their forests without ever
touching the ground. This is all well and good when one is in a forest and has the
advantage of surprise. Orim, like any elf, is deadly in the woods, especially if she is
familiar with them. She is an excellent shot and not bad at throwing her knife, either.
On level ground or in the open, however, she is at a distinct disadvantage. She is a
swift fighter, but she doesn't weigh very much and she's not particularly skilled with
her falchion, so if she were to fight a larger enemy in an open area, she
would almost certainly lose.
She is an asset to any party as a long-range attacker.
Orim has had some experience with runes but does not incorporate them into her
fighting. She does carry a healing jewel out of necessity.
PERSONALITY: Orim is a typical stoic, silent adventurer. She doesn't talk much to humans because she can't relate to them and they can't relate to her. She is quite a solitary creature. She has a few friends in various professions and locations, but they do most of the talking. Once you have breached the divide of race and culture, however, Orim is more than happy to give her views on weaponry, politics, horses, or any other subject in which she is knowledgeable. HISTORY: Okay, third time. Short version. The Cumkalla elves are xenophobic to the point of mania. Cumkalla youths may not marry outside the tribe unless extreme circumstances dictate such a departure from custom. Orim, training to be a Guardian, or boundary-guard of the Cumkalla forests, happened across a castaway from a pirate shipwreck. His name was Alandros, and he was about her age, a good-looking young fellow. He was, unfortunately, a human. Orim nursed him back to health and they had one of those innocent teenage romances. Orim blood-bonded him to her. This was all very well and good until one of the village elders figured out where all the extra food-stores were going, and caught her at it. Orim's hair was shorn, her ear-tips cut off, and her family's home-tree descrated and burned. Her brother was taken captive, and as she was dragged away she heard them speaking of the plans for his execution. (The way the elves see it, the execution of innocent family members is worse than any death they could imagine for an outcast.) Of Alandros, nothing further was known. Orim hears the occasional rumor which might refer to him. (Because of the elven blood which was introduced into his veins, he no longer ages like other humans.) Orim does not get her hopes up, though. At this point she has just finished a stint with a hunting expedition in Jinn, and has enough money to take a few months off. |
