My Travel Diary 2002

FebruaryBali, Indonesia I stayed at Club Med with my cousin Mel who was working there. I also went diving at Tulamben. The USS Liberty Wreck is very impressive with an abundance of marine life. I travelled to Ubud with John and Gurnilla, which was "memorable", and not something I would want to repeat in this lifetime!!
MarchAnambas, IndonesiaThe liveonboard with Vincent Dive was at the Udang oil rigs. The coral growth was incredible and I went to my personal deepest of 40m! It was a really great trip: good food, even better company, and fantastic weather. Anambas Photos
MayKoh Samui, ThailandIt's a beautiful island with white sandy beaches and crystal clear aqua waters. Rae and I stayed in a resort right on Chaweng Beach. Sunbathing topless is the norm (though I will not reveal if we did that ourselves!) and it's a very laid back place. We shopped, ate and got massaged, and it was a very satisfying weekend away. Definitely my new favourite spot in Southeast Asia!
JuneBintan, IndonesiaRob and I escaped to Bintan for a long weekend. We stayed at the Mayang Sari Resort and our room had a veranda and was 30 seconds from the beach! We did the usual: sunbathed, swam, ate and even watched some World Cup soccer. Our afternoon in the spa was also an interesting experience, as Rob had never done anything like that before! Certainly a lot of laughs! Bintan Photos
JulyU.S.A. and CanadaI landed in Seattle to 24 hours of non-stop rain! Not the best start but thank goodness it got better! I stayed with Dana, Spot and their kids in Bremerton for a few days, then Rob came to pick me up and we drove down to Portland to see my cousins Dominic, Irene and their gorgeous daughter Siobhan (if you think she's cute in the photos, wait till you see her in person!). We hung out in Portland and Canon Beach for a couple of days, then headed up to see my university friend Steph and her husband Chris in Tacoma. They live in a beautiful big house overlooking Puget Sound and we spent the 4th July with them watching the fireworks over the water. U.S.A. Photos
Rob and I also had a week in Canada. We went to Victoria, Vancouver Island and saw an amazing whale watching (orkas) trip! It was cold and wet, but definitely the highlight of the holiday. We also had a great evening tandem-biking at Stanley Park where the views were spectacular. The days just flew by because we did so much: shopping, eating, meeting his friends, etc. Rob was a real star and drove us tirelessly from place to place. It was so hard to leave at the end of the trip but I finally managed to drag myself on the plane for the long journey home....sigh.... Canada Photos
AugustRedang, MalaysiaIf you have never been on a girls' scuba diving weekend, then you should definitely do so, even if you are of the other gender! My old school mate Priscella aka Fish went to Redang with me and we had a great time with Dianna and Becky. The island is beautiful and the diving is much better than my disposable underwater Fuji camera can do justice to. Guess you guys will just have to go and see for yourselves!! Redang Photos
SteptemberAur, MalaysiaFor Rob's 30th birthday, we went on Vincent's liveonboard to Aur, where Rob did his Open Water Diver certification. My good friend Annee and her cute 5-year-old son Justin came with us. Please look at Rob's home page for more info! Aur Photos In case you are wondering, yes I did help him out with that ;-P
November7 skies, MalaysiaAt the last minute, Annie, Rob and I decided to go on Vincent's new luxury dive boat, the White Manta. On our first dive at the 7 skies wreck, a Swedish tanker that sunk in 1969, we saw a whale shark!! It was between 3 - 4 metres long, so just a juvenile, but absolutely gorgeous. The photos from the trip were taken by different people, enjoy! 7 skies Photos
DecemberKapalai, MalaysiaWe spent two weeks in Kapalai, Sabah, and dove at the world famous Sipadan and Mabul islands as well. We stayed at the lovely Sipadan-Kapalai Resort where the service was outstanding and the diving even more so. We also met a wonderful Australian family who live in the Middle East. Greg, Suzi and James (aged 11) really made the vacation special for us and we will definitely make an effort to keep the friendship going! The photos will speak for themselves. It was amazing!
