"Major"

Major is a two year old, neutered, sable and white little guy. He is about 15 tall. Major was originally turned into SC Sheltie Rescue by his family because they were getting a swimming pool! He had never been allowed inside the house, although he desperately wanted to live there with his family. Major had a dog house, but lived under the bushes in the yard. Before SC Sheltie Rescue could pick up Major, the heavy equipment and dirt diggers moved into Majors small yard. He had nowhere to escape. He was absolutely terrified, and the family still would not allow him to come inside. As a result of a lack of early socialization and being subjected to the inescapable terrors of the heavy machinery, Major is very nervous and afraid of the outdoors.
He was originally placed in a foster/adoptive home, but the family decided that he was not the right dog for them to adopt. He made strides with that family and began to go willingly outdoors (on lead) to play Nerf football and do his business. However, he had accidents inside the house (probably from fear of going outside) and displayed some typical Sheltie behaviors such as high energy and herding (by nipping at their heels as they would walk around the house).
He has been re-placed in another foster home and has not had an accident since. He will go outdoors (albeit reluctantly), especially if the other Sheltie in the household goes out, too.. At night, he is not afraid and runs the fence with the neighbors dog. He gets along fine with cats, loves children and loves to play with other high energy dogs, especially Shelties. Major may always have a fear of the outside (although it should lessen with further socialization). His best placement would be in a home with other playful dogs and children are okay. A fenced yard is a must. The right adoptive family would be content just to enjoy Major as a loving, affectionate family member who is content to stay home.

"Georgie"

Reduced adoption fee for this girl! Georgie would be great with an older person(s). Just loves to be petted, loves to be a couch potato, needs to be walked to keep those limbs loose and keep her mobile. Her hearing and sight could be better, but hey she is about 11. She is sweet, calm and learns the routine of the home quickly. Georgie weighs 40 pounds, down 4.5 lbs in 4 weeks and is working toward a goal of somewhere around 30 lbs. For more information on Georgie, contact Phyllis Beasley in Columbia at [email protected] or 803-926-8806, or Georgie's foster mom in Pickens, SC, at [email protected].

"Prince"
Adoption Pending

Prince is a 2 yr old or less Tri Sheltie. He is a wonderful companion dog with that loves to be petted and groomed. He walks nicely on lead and is and adapts well to inside or outside and is housebroken. Prince has shown to be a cat-friendly dog and has good temperament around other dogs. Though he stands about 17 1/2 inches high , he is overweight, weighing in at 42 lbs. Prince isn't play motivated, but is very loving and we believe once the weight comes down, we will see more play activity.

"Katie"

Maggie (now renamed Katie)is a 13 year old tricolor girl whose owner was forced to relinquish her prior to moving into an assisted living facility. Katie is now being fostered by Carol Anne, who has 5 Shelties of her own! Katie has thrived in her new environment. Her once-dull coat has a beautiful sheen and she enjoys romping with the other Shelties. Youd never know that she is 13 years old! She is a quiet, but loving dog who gets along well with other dogs. For more information on Katie, contact Phyllis Beasley in Columbia at [email protected] or 803-926-8806 or directly to her foster mom, Carol Anne at [email protected].

Special note: PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT PET STORES THAT SELL PUPPIES. Puppies found in pet stores are most often obtained from large puppy mills. The breeding is not selective or screened for genetic issues. Although puppies in stores are hard to resist, you are not rescuing the puppy by purchasing it, you are simply continuing to provide a market for puppy mills. If you want to purchase a puppy, please contact SC Sheltie Rescue for a referral to a reputable breeder.
