THE PRAIRIE PRIMER by Margie Gray - The Prairie Primer is a literature based unit study utilizing the "Little House" series which has been used by public, private, and home schools. Parents have also used it as a supplemental course during the summer. It was developed for students in grades 3-6, but has been used with both younger and older students.

It is varied and incorporates many topics including 1800's American history, science, health, nutrition, literature, daily writing, geography, Bible, character building, daily living application, and more. The Reading Comprehension questions will increase communication between the parent and child as well as check comprehension and build thinking skills.

The Primer is designed to be user friendly. The Weekly Planning Guide highlights the resources and materials to be gathered. It also helps direct the focus of the study and allows the parent/teacher to be prepared to seize the moment relating to the current study. This prevents the need for reading all the activities prior to going to the library and the grocery store.

Most resources have been found to be available in both urban and rural areas. Background Information is given for some topics that might be difficult for the parent/teacher to find or to ensure a minimum exposure to certain topics. Biographies and information about major situations are included, encouraging an understanding of the flow of history. The Prairie Primer has been mother and child tested and approved.

The activities cover academics and Bible studies that relate to the chapters or pages read. An academic category is given in the margin next to each assignment to help you choose, record, or balance your child's studies. Choose those Activities that are age, ability, and interest appropriate for your child.

Many of the Activities may take more than one day to complete depending on your family's interest and time. Warning: doing all the activities listed in the Prairie Primer may be dangerous to your schooling!

This item may be loaned out for an extended period of time.

"Let My Children Go: Why Parents Must Remove Their Children from Public Schools NOW" by E. Ray Moore, Jr., ThM.  Controversial.  "American schools are the best funded in the world yet out of 41 nations, American students consistently rank near, or at the bottom in mathematics, physics and science.  Despite their failings more than 80% of evangelical Christians place their children in government (public) schools, exposing them to physical and moral danger on a daily basis.
One of the first things missionaries abroad do, is to start Christian schools and home schools, to tutor their converts, yet in America, most Christians allow their children to be brainwashed by the public schools; New Age, socialist agenda.  Education belongs to the famiy first, with assistance from the Church, but now the government has been permitted to usurp this vitally important role.
The Biblical instruction of our children may be the thrust that God could use to restore American society and revive the nation.  A fresh obedience by the Church, to its God-ordained role in education, may be the catalyst for a new Great Awakening."

"Home Economics I"  Homemaking in a box!  Have you ever though that because of their years of hands-on experience, your home-taught daughters have a distinct advantage over their government-schooled peers in the home economics department?  Well, that is not always true.  Even the best of teachers will have undetected gaps in their lessons, which may not be a critical when teaching geography as it is for home economics.  If you would like to introduce your 12- to 18-year-old daughter to the homemaking skills they will need, Christian Light's course is a great first step.  Rich with hands-on learning opportunities, this course covers food preparation, sewing, child development, homemaking and Godly womanhood.  Ten economically printed workbooks in a handy slipcase make it easy for a parent to customize the coursework for a child if necessary.  For instance, there is some information in the workbook on womanhood that I would not find necessary to share with any young teen.  Published by Mennonites, I love the gentle and peaceful perspective these workbooks display.  Highly recommended.  Because this coursework assumes virtually no prior experience, this program can be suitable for students as young as 12.
