| He originally broke the APF South Carolina Powerlifting record in March 2004 with a Bench Press of 110 Kg (about 250 pounds), a Squat of 102.5 Kg (about 225 pounds) and a Dead Lift of 165 Kg (about 365 pounds)! THEN - He went back in July 2004 and broke his own Squat Record with a squat of 265 pounds! Not too bad for an old guy! |

| After playing softball and baseball all his life, George suddenly found himself with a hamstring injury that made him realize a sport involving running was no longer an option. Our family joined our local YMCA and George discovered powerlifting at the tender age of 68. Cancer surgery, 5 bypasses and a double hernia later, he shows no sign of letting up! Our newspaper, "The State", did a full 2-page spread on George on June 24, 2004. It was a great honor and garnered him much attention! He was interviewed for a human interest segment that aired on WIS-TV, our local ABC affiliate, by Rick Henry, their sportscaster. The Sports Psychology Professor at USC has had George come and speak for his classes several times now. The students respond very favorably to his talks. Many times they express the wonder of seeing someone his age in his shape. They compare him to their parents or grandparents and find hope and inspiration for their own futures. George is the manifestation of the old joke, "If I'd known I was going to live this long, I woulda taken better care of myself"! George has spoken for the Rotary Club with a healthy diet and regular exercise being his topic. |
