The following is a list of US Navy Flag Officers in 1863, as included in a report submitted to
Congress in February 1863, covering the
Fiscal year ending
Congress, 3rd Session). The list is in order of seniority, and includes officers on the active
& retired lists. While duty assignments were not included in the source material, compensation
was, and so this is included here to give some idea of what naval officers earned in the Civil
War era. Compensation is a combination of pay, travel, and rations.
