Shown here as a Lieutenant, Corwin Rees saw Civil War service in the Army. He later served as Executive Officer of USS OLYMPIA at Manila Bay in 1898. After his tour as Captain of the Yard at Portsmouth, Captain Rees assumed command of the Naval Station, Honolulu, retiring in September 1910 as a Rear Admiral.
