| Hello, my name is Professor Katie. I am fortunate enough to be your Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Everything I shall teach you will be to protect you against Lord Vol.... The Dark Lord, so one day instead of being as good as dead.... you have a chance to live. My first couple of classes will be to go over previous Hogwarts Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers and what they have taught. After that I will fill in all the holes. Lesson 1 The first 5 teachers of Defebse Against the Drak Arts were Quirrell, Lockhart, Lupin, Moody, and Lastly Umbridge. In this lesson we will talk about Quirrell. Professor Quirrell was the first Defense Against the Dark Arts professor the the legendary Harry Potter ever had. Quirrell was supposedly a very good teacher until he took a year off for "practical learning". When he taught that year his room constantly smelled of garlic, which was said that it was there to protect him from a VAMPIRE who Quirrell met in Romania and was feared was coming to get him. The turban (which he always wore) was said to be given to him by an African Prince because he got rid of a zombie. This was weird because whenever he was asked about the subject, he ignored the question, also his turban was the thing that most smelled, not like garlic though, which Quirrell claimed. A curse that Quirrell had taught was THE CURSE OF BOGIES. Out of Quirrell's historythere are two things I want to expans your knowledge on.... VAMPIRES: These pale and gaunt creatures are associated with Romania and Transylvania. These creatures, though feared by many, are not considered wizards. One creature not scared by them however are Centaurs. Though many are scared by these things such as blood flavored lollipops are made for them (supplied at Honeydukes). Quirrell encountered some in the Black Forest (not mistakes with the Forbidden). CURSE OF BOGIES: This curse effect is unknown. Though many guesses have been made. We have guessed at it's origin for help and have come up with this list... Old Bogey: The Devil Bogle: Scottish phantom or goblin Bogge: Terror from a welsh goast And also... (clears throat) Bogey: Booger Homework Yes, I do give homework. All proper professors should. Now before I give you the homework my policy on it is the following... 1) POINTS WILL BE TAKEN OFF FOR MISSING DETAIL. 2) POINTS WILL BE TAKEN OFF IF TOO MANY SPELLING ERRORS. 3) POINTS WILL BE AWARDED FOR THOSE WHO DO EXTRA RESEARCH AND GO ABOVE AND BEYOND. 4) POINTS WILL BE AWARDED FOR EXTRA CREIT. 5) ALL HW IS TO BE HANDED IN IN PARAGRAPH FORM UNLESS TOLD OTHER WISE. 6) POINTS WILL BE AWARDED AFTER HW IS GRADED. 7) FAILURE IN HANDING IN HW WILL RESULT IN AN EXTRA ASSIGNMENT OR PUNISHMENT. 8) SHALL BE SETTING UP CLASS TIMES SHORTLY AND THEY WILL BE DONE BY... MYSELF OPENING A CHAT-ROOM, THEN ALL THE STUDENTS ONLINE WILL IM ME SO I CAN INVITE THEM TO THE CHAT AND THEY CAN HAVE CLASS. THIS WILL REQUIRE NOTE TAKING. IF YOU MISS A CLASS (WITHOUT INFORMING ME) YOU WILL HAVE TO WRITE A PARAGRAPH ABOUT WHY YOU MISSED CLASS, AND TRY TO SCRAP SOME NOTES FROM SOMEONE. IF THIS ATTEMPT DOES NOT WORK I WILL E-MAIL YOU THE LESSON. IF YOU KNOW YOU CANNOT MAKE THE CLASS PLEASE INFORM ME SO PUNISHMENT WILL NOT ARISE. FAILURE IN ATTENDING CLASSES WILL RESULT IN A MUCH GREATER PUNISHMENT. 9) QUIZZES WILL BE GIVEN SO DOING HW IS CRUCIAL. ALSO NOTES WILL BE HANDED IN SOME TIMES TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE DOING THEM. Now the homework is... 1) Write a two paragraph essay (paragraphs are 5-7 sentences at least) on Vampires. This should include... ~ Detail on what vampires are. ~ How Quirrell and vampires connect. ~ Has Harry Potter ever met one? hint: put this in Quirrell part. 2) Write what you think the CURSE OF BOGIES effect might be. MAKE SURE YOU SAY WHY!!! 3) EX-TRA CREDIT (points will be determined on answer): Answer the following questions in paragraph form (I won't remind you to do that on following HW) A: Why was the cloak actually there? B: What was the cloak hiding? C: Why was the cloak hiding that? D: What ended up happening to the "it" Quirrell was hiding? |
