THE DARK SORCERER KING
WILLOW II

November 30, 2001
ACT I: REUNIONS
FADE IN:
A BLACK SCREEN
SUPERIMPOSE:
18 YEARS LATER
The black slowly fades and sounds of BATTLE take over. Soon, we see
a huge battle being fought between two forces. One army is CLAD IN
BLACK and one in SILVER. A castle is in the background.
The Black Army seems to be overtaking the other. Swords CLANG and
another silver warrior falls from his horse.
Similar scenes are going on all around.
Soon, a battle cry sweeps the night and the Black Army advances into
the castle walls.
EXT. CASTLE OF TIR ASLEEN - NIGHT
A lovely woman in her early 40s with flowing red hair swings her sword,
taking a black rider down. She looks around frantically.
SORSHA
Elora! Elora!
No one seems to hear her in the chaos. A black warrior comes from
behind and rears back to take a swipe at her head. Sorsha DUCKS the
blow and thrusts her own sword back into a weak point of the armor.
The man goes down.
SORSHA
(to herself)
Where are you, Elora?
Two warriors come at her. She blocks the blow of one and kicks the
other, knocking him down. She strikes the sword from her original
attacker, cuts him through the midsection and turns around to impale
the other soldier before he has a chance to get up or the other to
even fall down.
Two more dispatched, Sorsha makes her way to a point where the battle
has yet to rage. She sees an old lady laying down, weakened.
Sorsha runs over to FIN RAZIEL.
SORSHA
Raziel! What has happened?
RAZIEL
I am sorry, Sorsha. He was too
powerful. I could not best him.
SORSHA
Too powerful for you?
RAZIEL
Even me.
SORSHA
We have to flee. Where is Elora
Danan?
RAZIEL
Elora is gone. She is no longer
here.
Raziel is getting weaker and weaker, her voice growing lower.
SORSHA
Is she safe?
RAZIEL
I... don't know. You must find her.
She reaches into her robe and pulls out a WAND.
RAZIEL
I've put the rest of my magic into
this wand. Only the right person
may use that power. With it, perhaps
they can destroy the Dark Power.
If not...
Her words falter.
SORSHA
You must come with me, Raziel. We
can go to someplace safe. The castle
has fallen.
RAZIEL
I know. And I cannot go with you.
I am drained. Not only of magic,
I fear. Go, be safe. There is nothing
you can do now.
She hands the wand to Sorsha.
RAZIEL
Keep this safe... give it to the one
who must use it...
She hardly has strength to hold on.
RAZIEL
...find Willow...
Sorsha looks on in sadness as Raziel's life fades and she lays there,
an empty shell. Quickly gathering her wits, she rushes off.
FADE OUT:
TITLE CARD: THE DARK SORCERER KING: WILLOW II
FADE IN:
Over a region in the desert. Buzzards fly in the air. We pan
over
the desert wasteland until we come to the outskirts of a small
village.
EXT. SHANRA - DAY
Four NELWYNS, a small race, exit a dwelling on the outskirts of the village
of Shanra. They divide up into two different lines, two in each line,
on either side of the door. They act as an honor guard. One speaks.
BENPEL
We are ready to escort you to
the outer regions.
A small robed figure steps from the dwelling. He looks over to the
guard on the left, then the right. WILLOW UFGOOD may be 18 years
older since last we saw him, but he still seems to be a little
uncertain of himself.
A VILLAGE COUNCILMAN comes out behind him. RIGAR puts his hand on
Willow's shoulder, comforting him.
RIGAR
Peace, Willow. You may think
this beyond your power, but the
High Aldwin of your village would
not have sent you on this task if
he did not think you ready for it.
WILLOW
I am ready. He has been a great
teacher and I've spent the last
few hours preparing myself. But
the butterflies still invade my
stomach.
Rigar chuckles.
RIGAR
I'm sure that is to be expected.
Not everyone has faced a Krathdor.
Rock Dragons send even the sturdy
of heart fleeing as little children.
Willow sighs.
WILLOW
I've faced down far worse than a
little ol' Rock Dragon.
Rigar smiles at this remark.
RIGAR
This is true. Who doesn't know
the tale of the hero Willow and
how he vanquished the evil Queen?
What is a Krathdor to him?
Willow looks down at the ground.
WILLOW
Of course, I did have a little help
with that problem.
RIGAR
As you will here. Come, we must go
to it's lair while it still sleeps,
or tonight it will surely lay waste
to this village as it has done to the
outlying ones.
WILLOW
I'm as ready as I ever will be I
suppose.
Rigar looks at one of the guards.
RIGAR
Then ready the wagon!
The guard rushes off to perform his duty.
RIGAR
Remember, Willow. The Rock Dragon is
not like a normal dragon. Don't expect
the huge wingspan or the breath of fire.
WILLOW
I understand.
Rigar smirks.
RIGAR
Probably no damsels in distress trapped
in it's home, either.
WILLOW
I'm sure if there were, she would be quite
squashed about now.
RIGAR
I imagine so.
At that point, a wagon rolls up, pulled by two camels.
RIGAR
If we leave now, we should reach
it by nightfall.
They load up onto the wagon.
EXT. DUNES - EVENING
The wagon comes to a stop in front of a rocky cliff face out beyond the
dunes of the desert.
We pan around and see a huge opening on the side of the cliff.
Skeletons and other things lay about the opening.
BENPEL
That's the entrance to the Rock
Dragon's cave, or I'm not a peck.
Rigar sighs.
RIGAR
We have enough problems with other
races using derogatory terms for us,
we don't need the help of our own
people.
BENPEL
Sorry, sir.
Willow looks at the cave entrance and his face becomes a mask of
determination.
WILLOW
If I'm not out of there before night-
fall, you may want to run and evacuate
the village.
RIGAR
Luck to you, Willow.
WILLOW
And to you, if I fail.
Willow exits the wagon and starts toward the cave, not looking back
at his companions.
He enters the cave. Rigar and the others look after him and a few
moments later, Rigar motions to Benpel.
RIGAR
Go in and follow him. Keep
out of sight, but make sure no
harm befalls him before he can
stop that monster.
Benpel nods in acknowledgment and walks off to the cave.
INT. KRATHDOR CAVE
Willow slowly moves down the passage, all the time muttering under his
breath a spell of protection.
A few feet behind him, more stealth fully, Benpel follows him.
They pass all kinds of decaying creatures, some old, some not so old.
Scratches adorn the cave walls, at least the part you can see by the
entrance where the light comes in.
As they enter into darkness, Willow holds up a stick and speaks.
WILLOW
Illuminous aparas.
The stick lights up and lets Willow see a few feet around him.
Benpel keeps out of the light and stays careful that his shadow
doesn't show through it.
Eventually, the path widens out to a huge, seemingly empty chamber.
Here, more decay and death sits. A whole caravan sits in one corner,
the horses' bones in front. A skull here, a skull there.
But no sign of the Krathdor.
Willow looks around, confused. He looks up at the ceiling. It
rounds
up dome like far above, but no where a dragon could hide.
SCRAPE SCRAPE
Willow spins around and sees nothing at the entrance to the chamber.
He feels a presence, but can't pinpoint it.
WILLOW
Where are you?
Off to his side, a rock formation on the wall stirs. Willow spins
around and sees this. The Rock Dragon was hiding. Two pinpoints
of light near the front of the formation show up as the creature
opens it's eyes.
Willow closes his eyes as he points his stick, actually a WAND, at
the formation and begins to chant.
WILLOW
Kethu, Renzor... Peerzo...
Clathu... Speenrock!
A source of power seems to be GATHERING at the point of the wand, but
before it can do anything, the ROCK DRAGON leaps from it's hiding place
and looks down on Willow.
It's head, neck and hole body is formed of rock and stone. It moves
on four legs, which are also rock.
It rears back it's head and opens it's mouth.
BAM
Willow falls over as Benpel pushes him out of the way. He tries to
bring forth his shield, but it's too late. HUNDREDS OF ROCKS spew
from the mouth of the Krathdor and hit Benpel with force. Benpel
falls, bludgeoned almost to death.
It turns it attention back to Willow and finds Willow pointing his
wand right back at the dragon. Willow lets forth one final word.
WILLOW
...Crystalis...
A BEAM SHOOTS from the wand and BATHES the Rock Dragon with it.
The light passes over, through and around the dragon and when it
finally goes away, the Dragon stands still. It is PURE CRYSTAL.
He walks over to the fallen Benpel and picks up his sword. Then
he walks over to the motionless dragon and drives the sword under
it's formerly rocky belly.
The crystal breaks and this causes a chain reaction. The entire
Krathdor crumbles apart and when the dust settles, nothing is left
but four legs and feet.
Willow walks over and shatters those as well.
He then walks back to the bloody Benpel and lifts him to his feet.
He puts one of Benpel's arms around his neck and he starts to drag
him from the cave.
EXT. DUNES - EVENING
Willow emerges from the cave with the fallen Benpel. The rest
of the guard rush up to him, as does Rigar.
RIGAR
Is he dead?
WILLOW
Not yet. But he may well be if
we don't get him help soon.
RIGAR
The dragon?
WILLOW
Will not bother you anymore.
He motions to Benpel.
WILLOW
He saved my life. He's the reason
the dragon is dead.
RIGAR
Well then, we must do what we can
to save his, now mustn't we?
They walk over to Benpel.
CUT TO:
EXT. VILLAGE - DAY
Many Nelwyn frequent the village. There are dwellings
everywhere. Some people keep pigs on the farms. A windmill
blows in the soft breeze off to the side.
This is the reassuring sight of home that Willow returns to when
he rides into town on his pony.
A farmer sees him.
FARMER
Willow!
Willow waves in greeting.
He rides on and the people in the town greet him, but they don't
seem as enthusiastic as they normally would. There seems to be
a certain gloom about the place. Willow's happy countenance turns
gloomy to match the mood.
A sturdy young man in his early twenties walks up to Willow and
bows his head in greeting.
RANON
Dad.
WILLOW
Why the gloom everywhere, son?
RANON
Come with me to the High Aldwin.
He wants to talk to you.
WILLOW
Lead on, son.
Willow's offspring walks in lead as Willow follows.
CUT TO:
EXT. HIGH ALDWIN'S DWELLING - DAY
Willow dismounts his pony and ties him up. His son stops by the
door and looks back at Willow.
RANON
It's best if you go and speak
with him alone. He's not well
at all.
Willow frowns in concern.
WILLOW
What is wrong with him.
RANON
We don't know. He simply says
that his time is nearly up. He
only hopes to talk to you before
he goes.
WILLOW
Wait for me out here.
RANON
Yes, dad.
Willow opens the door and enters the dwelling of the High Aldwin.
INT. HIGH ALDWIN'S DWELLING - DAY
The old Sorcerer lays on his bed, looking weaker than even his old
age should permit. Willow walks to his bedside and gently touches
his hand.
The High Aldwin turns his head, though he has yet to open his eyes.
HIGH ALDWIN
Willow?
WILLOW
Yes, it is me.
HIGH ALDWIN
The Rock Dragon?
The High Aldwin is so weak, he can only speak a bit at a time. Willow
realizes that he is trying to save his strength.
WILLOW
Gone. I destroyed him, but
someone was badly hurt. We
have hope for him now, but it
wasn't looking good for
a bit. However, the monster is
gone. Shanra is safe.
The High Aldwin smiles as he opens his eyes and looks at Willow.
HIGH ALDWIN
As I knew it would be. It is
true, Willow, you have become a
great sorcerer.
WILLOW
What of you? Can you not get
better?
HIGH ALDWIN
These past few weeks that you've
been gone, I've grown very sick,
Willow. Old age catches up with
you in the end, sorcerer or not.
No amount of medicines or wizardry
can help that. It is merely my time.
My time is almost pass, and yours is
to come.
Willow shakes his head, but can't bring himself to speak.
HIGH ALDWIN
Yes. Dark times are coming, Willow,
and not just for you. For the whole
land. Once again, you will have to
be one of the few who stands strong
against it and must push it back. The old
world is passing with me. You must
endure this evil and help bring about
the new world. A world where there
will finally be peace.
WILLOW
What do you speak of?
HIGH ALDWIN
You have two old friends at your house
who wish to speak with you. They can
explain more or take you to someone who
can. You must go to them now. It is
your time, Willow. Your family understands
this.
WILLOW
How can I leave you while you are like
this?
HIGH ALDWIN
I won't be like this much longer.
His voice is getting lower, harder to hear.
HIGH ALDWIN
Willow, remember which finger controls
the universe.
With that, he grasps Willow's hand until the grip goes lax and the hand
falls to the bed as the High Aldwin breathes his last breath.
WILLOW
I know. Mine.
Tears stream down Willow's face as he buries it into the High Aldwin's
chest to grieve.
CUT TO:
EXT. HIGH ALDWIN'S DWELLING - DAY
Willow exits the building with a heavy heart. He looks over at his
son.
RANON
How is he?
WILLOW
He's gone. I'm going home. Find
a doctor or someone and bring them
here. They'll do what they must.
Ranon nods his head and walks off, also saddened by the High Aldwin's
passing.
Willow mounts his pony and rides off.
EXT. WILLOW'S HOUSE - DAY
Willow rides up to his house and his wife KAIYA rushes out to embrace
him.
KAIYA
I heard you were back.
WILLOW
I'm here at last.
She lets go and looks at him.
KAIYA
Have you seen the High Aldwin?
Willow merely answers by nodding his head and looking down.
Kaiya understands completely.
KAIYA
I'm so sorry you had to return
from such a long journey to this.
WILLOW
I do get to see you again.
That brings a smile to her face. She embraces him again.
KAIYA
But it doesn't seem as though I
will have any time with you alone.
You have visitors.
WILLOW
I heard. Who is it?
KAIYA
See for yourself.
They head for the door and enter.
INT. WILLOW'S HOUSE
Willow looks around and sees nobody.
KAIYA
They are in the kitchen, eating.
Again.
Willow nods and heads into the kitchen.
INT. KITCHEN
No one sits at the table. Willow looks around in confusion.
WILLOW
Hello?
A small BURP comes from somewhere and Willow immediately looks to
the table as a SMALL FIGURE climbs out of a bowl of grapes. He
is clothed like a small savage.
FRANJEAN
To you these are teeny bity
morsels of food, for me an
entire feast! So it is a good
thing I can eat many feasts!
Willow smiles as he realizes one of his guests is the BROWNIE,
FRANJEAN.
WILLOW
Franjean! How are you?
FRANJEAN
I am fine, Willow the sorcerer!
Come out, Rool!
ROOL climbs from a mug of beer. He wears a rat skin about him, with
the rat head as his hat.
ROOL
I am the Rat King! Bring on
any rat, and I will take him on!
Have you a rat problem, Willow?
If so, then I am your Brownie!
FRANJEAN
Do not listen to him, Willow. He
is scared witless by rodents!
ROOL
Be quiet, hamster spawn!
WILLOW
Hope you haven't had too much
to drink there, Rool.
ROOL
There is no such thing as too much
drink, my peck friend!
WILLOW
What do I owe the pleasure.
FRANJEAN
See? He says we are a pleasure!
ROOL
Try telling that Daikini that!
FRANJEAN
He is not so bad, for a big person.
ROOL
I have met worse, it is true.
WILLOW
What is old Madmartigan up to these
days, come to speak of it.
With that, the two brownies moods changed.
FRANJEAN
It is, I am afraid, not so good.
ROOL
Yes, he is in big trouble, and he
sent us here to get your help.
WILLOW
What kind of trouble?
FRANJEAN
It is best he tell you. We will
take you to him.
WILLOW
Must I leave so soon? I just got
home.
ROOL
We are sorry, it is true, but the
giant idiot says it is important.
FRANJEAN
That is because it IS important!
ROOL
I did not say it was not!
FRANJEAN
Ha! You do have a point!
WILLOW
You fellas stay here. I need some
time alone with my wife.
Rool winks at Willow and nudges Franjean with his elbow.
ROOL
Some time alone! I understand very
well!
FRANJEAN
It is not THAT kind of alone, you
moronic rodent head!
ROOL
Ah, but who is to say it isn't?
Willow leaves the kitchen as the two Brownies continue their endless
chattering.
INT. LIVING ROOM
Kaiya sits on the couch, knitting. She looks up as Willow comes in.
KAIYA
How are your friends?
WILLOW
They want me to go with them.
Kaiya puts down her knitting.
KAIYA
I know.
WILLOW
But I don't want to leave you
again, Kaiya.
KAIYA
And I don't want you to leave me.
But if you must do this, then you
must. I am of little importance
in the grand scheme of things.
WILLOW
You are NOT of little importance.
KAIYA
I am not important enough to be
selfish with you. You have other
duties, other callings and you
must go to them. You are the one
who can do it. But you mustn't worry.
I will always be here, waiting for
you to come back.
WILLOW
But I'm afraid I won't come back.
KAIYA
You always have before. Why should
this time be any different?
WILLOW
I just have a bad feeling about this,
that's all.
KAIYA
I do, too. But I somehow sense that
if you don't go, it will be even worse.
Willow smiles as he kisses his wife on the cheek.
WILLOW
Maybe I'm not the only great sorcerer
in this family.
Kaiya smiles back.
KAIYA
Or maybe women have always had a greater
sense of things than men.
WILLOW
You may just be right.
CUT TO:
EXT. WILLOW'S HOUSE - MORNING
The next morning, Willow is on his Pony with Franjean and Rool peeking
out of one of the bags. As Willow rides off, the two brownies wave
enthusiastically to Kaiya.
ROOL
Farewell, Mrs. Willow!
FRANJEAN
We will protect your husband!
ROOL
After all, if we don't, who else
can?
FRANJEAN
Ha ha! That is true!
As they travel, we have a MONTAGE of scenes with the theme from
WILLOW playing in the BG.
Willow traveling over a log bridge over a VAST crevice.
Willow traveling through the woods at night.
Willow traveling past a huge lake with the moon shining down over it.
Willow traveling over a plain as mountains loom before him.
Willow as he enters the mountainous terrain.
EXT. MOUNTAINS - EVENING
Willow rides in a valley between two mountains through a path cleared
out in the woods. Two TROLLS jump out on either side of Willow.
Willow looks at each disgustedly. The pony rears back, frightened.
WILLOW
Trolls.
ROOL
Ugly, hairy beasts!!
FRANJEAN
Quick, we must arm ourselves and
protect Willow, for that is our
duty!
Franjean and Rool disappear into their bag.
Willow, meanwhile holds out both of his hands on either side of his
body, both pointing at the Trolls.
The Trolls advance warily, sensing something is wrong as Willow chants
under his breath.
Power WELLS up in both of Willow's hands and he brings them in for a
second. Then he thrusts them out and the power SHOOTS from both,
engulfing both of the Trolls.
The Trolls SCREAM as the power rolls over them.
BOOM!
The Trolls EXPLODE into nothingness.
Franjean and Rool pop up, spears at the ready.
ROOL
Come and get it, hairy dog like
beast!
They stare a second.
FRANJEAN
Where did they go?
ROOL
They were here a second ago.
Willow looks down at the brownies.
WILLOW
They won't be bothering us again,
so don't worry about the Trolls.
ROOL
Ah! Willow, the sorcerer did it
without our help!
FRANJEAN
Then what good are we?
ROOL
He will of course need eyes and
advice!
FRANJEAN
Who better to see and give?
ROOL
That is as I see it, too!
Willow smiles and shakes his heads at the antics of his two old
friends. He learned a long time ago to put up with their silly
banter, it was just who they were.
CUT TO:
EXT. ADOBE HUT - DAY
An adobe hut sits at the base of a monstrous mountain. Willow
comes up the path and stops his pony short.
The hut is surrounded by eight warriors clad in BLACK ARMOR and
ROBES.
WARRIOR
Come out, pissant! You cannot
escape us now.
A robed presence exits the hut, walking calmly amongst the black
soldiers. A hood hides the strangers face and he keeps his arms
and hands inside his robes.
WARRIOR
Show your hands.
Out of sight, Willow dismounts his pony and creeps up to a bushy
area not far from the hut.
WARRIOR
I said show your hands!
The strangers hands come from somewhere beneath his robes and
the glint of light on metal is all anyone needs to see that one
hand holds a mighty broadsword.
The superior warrior steps up to him.
WARRIOR
Drop that sword, stranger!
Instead of dropping it, the stranger quickly brings it up to bear
on the warrior. Before the dark soldier knows what is happening, he
loses his head.
Two more soldiers attack him on either side. He blocks a blow from
one, dodges the blow from another and sweeps out with his leg. A
soldier goes down and the stranger brings his sword down, cutting
the fallen soldier almost in two where there is a break in the armor.
He is quick to bring the sword back up and block the next blow from
the other attacking soldier. He blocks the blow away, spins around
and cuts the man's legs from beneath him. A sharp blow to the neck
puts the man out of his misery.
That's three down, five to go.
Another soldier leaps at the stranger and he blocks and parries with
his right hand. His left hand goes into his robe and swiftly comes
out with a knife. The knife flies through the air and takes out
another soldier who was preparing to strike.
He brings his attention back on the one he's sparring with. Deciding
that play time is over, he knocks the sword away with his sword and
brings his free fist into the warrior's face.
The warrior crumples. Five down.
The hooded man tosses his sword in the air with one hand, spins around
and catches it with the other just in time to block a blow from one
of the three remaining soldiers. He blocks the blow upwards, then
brings his sword down and jabs the man right through the neck.
Two left and they both approach him warily. He tosses his sword from
one hand to the other, calmly.
He doesn't see another unknown soldier creep from the woods behind
him, but Willow does.
The hooded man attacks the two remaining soldiers while the third
rushes him from behind, sword raised.
Thinking quickly, Willow brings forth his wand, chants a quick spell,
and lets loose.
The beam of power shoots out and strikes the unknown attacker, turning
him into ice just as the hooded man uses a slick move to impale one
man, and slice through the neck of the other, decapitating him.
As soon as his sword flies through that unlucky soldier's neck, he
spins around, crashing it through the frozen attackers body, shattering
the ICY BODY to thousands of SHARDS.
He stands, breathing heavily as he watches Willow slowly come out from
behind the bush.
Unexpectedly, the hooded man starts to laugh. Willow looks towards
him, shocked.
The shock turns to pleasure as the laughing man lowers his hood to
reveal Willow's old friend MADMARTIGAN.
MADMARTIGAN
Willow, you old peck, I was
wondering when you'd get here!
WILLOW
What would you do if I weren't
around to watch your back, Mad-
martigan? It's a wonder you are
still alive.
Madmartigan approaches his old friend and grasps his hands in
greeting.
MADMARTIGAN
You mean Frosty over there? Oh,
I had him, completely. Just biding
my time.
WILLOW
That's not what it looked like to
me. You were about to have your
head cloven in.
MADMARTIGAN
If it makes you feel good about
yourself, go on and believe that.
About this time, Rool and Franjean rush to the scene, weapons drawn.
ROOL
Where is the enemy?
They stop short and look around.
FRANJEAN
They are all dead.
Rool spits in disgust.
ROOL
You guys are always killing all of
the bad guys! You are no fun!
MADMARTIGAN
I see you two gnats actually managed
to bring Willow to me. I'm halfway
impressed.
ROOL
Halfway?
FRANJEAN
What is the matter with being all the
way impressed? I know I would be if
I were you.
MADMARTIGAN
Well, we can just count our little
blessings, now can't we?
The brownies make rude noises and gestures to Madmartigan, who simply
ignores them and turns his attention to Willow.
MADMARTIGAN
I am thankful you came. You had
me worried, though. I thought you'd
never show up.
WILLOW
I had a bit of business out of town.
I just got back a couple of days
ago. What is all the urgency? Is
it really that bad?
MADMARTIGAN
The worst. I'll explain it to you
on the way. We'll leave as soon as
my friend comes back. I sent him
off to gather some food before I was
paid a suprise visit by our friends
here.
WILLOW
A good thing you still have you skill
with the sword.
MADMARTIGAN
And you with the wand.
They hear a rustle and a horseman comes from the woods. He is a young
man of about 20 and is strong looking. His dark hair is cut close to
his head and his clothing loose, covering a well built body. A bag
hangs from the saddle, carrying food.
MADMARTIGAN
Willow Ufgood, Liam Byrne.
Liam leaps from his horse, but instead of acknowledging Willow right
off the bat, his attention is drawn to the pile of bodies around the
hut.
LIAM
I miss something?
MADMARTIGAN
Nothing too big. But since Willow
is here, we may as well be going.
It would be no good to stay here any
longer than we had to now.
Liam looks to Willow.
LIAM
Willow Ufgood. Have I heard some
stories about you.
Madmartigan seems to want to hurry away from that conversation.
MADMARTIGAN
Yeah, we've all heard them. No
need to recount them now.
LIAM
Madmartigan's told them all.
MADMARTIGAN
Time to be off. Where's my horse?
He looks around. Willow looks at him.
WILLOW
Madmartigan's told them all, eh?
LIAM
Yeah. How you helped him destroy
the evil queen and her army, how
you helped him look after the infant
Elora Danan as you were hounded from
all sides.
WILLOW
Told you all this, did he?
LIAM
Yeah...
He smiles in Madmartigan's direction as he walks behind the hut to
fetch his horse.
LIAM
...But knowing Madmartigan like I
do, I'm sure it was all the other
way around.
Willow chuckles.
WILLOW
That would a bit closer to the
truth.
ROOL
What about us? Did we not play
a big part?
WILLOW
Well, you did help bring Madmartigan
and Sorsha together.
The brownies sigh.
ROOL AND FRANJEAN
(wistfully)
The Dust of Brokenhearts.
Madmartigan rides from around the hut on his horse.
MADMARTIGAN
Let's go.
CUT TO:
EXT. FIELD - DAY
The group rides over the field. Madmartigan and Willow ride side
by side, though Madmartigan is a little higher than the halfling.
WILLOW
They destroyed your entire army?
MADMARTIGAN
What was at the castle, anyway. The
rest have been scattered around here
and there. Not nearly enough to take
on their forces.
WILLOW
They must be quite powerful.
MADMARTIGAN
They brought a powerful sorcerer with
them, I think he was their leader.
They tore through us like we were nothing.
Drove us into hiding. Sorsha and I
and a few others found our way to the
Brownies. Elora Danan is still missing.
Willow looks down.
WILLOW
There is no word from her?
MADMARTIGAN
Not in all these months. We can
only hope that she is still alive
and safe wherever she may be. She
is our only hope.
WILLOW
What of Fin Raziel?
MADMARTIGAN
Gone.
Willow doesn't realize the implications of Madmartigan's one word.
WILLOW
She should be able to find us.
She shouldn't stay lost very
long.
MADMARTIGAN
No, Willow. Gone. As in not lost
gone, but gone gone.
WILLOW
Oh.
He rides in a saddened silence for few moments.
MADMARTIGAN
That sorcerer was powerful. Not
even she could stand against him.
WILLOW
Things do look very dim, indeed.
Madmartigan nods his head in agreement.
MADMARTIGAN
Raziel said we should find you.
WILLOW
Of course I'll help in any way I
can.
MADMARTIGAN
I know you will. You are the most
stubborn peck I've ever met.
Willow motions back to Liam.
WILLOW
Is he one of your soldiers?
MADMARTIGAN
Liam? No. He helped me once when
I was attacked by soldiers. Gave
me a place to hide. Said he had
nothing left and wanted to come fight
by our side. In these times, you don't
say no to help.
They enter into a wooded area.
MADMARTIGAN
We're getting closer.
CUT TO:
EXT. BROWNIE VILLAGE - NIGHT
Madmartigan, Willow and company ride into the village as the sun dies,
giving way to the moon. In addition to the brownie's dwellings, a
makeshift village has been set up for the bigger folks.
Fairies fly here and there and Willow looks on in amazement.
WILLOW
It's like I never left.
MADMARTIGAN
Pretty amazing, huh? They let us
stay here, believe it or not. They
have been our best allies so far.
A tent stirs and Sorsha steps from the opening. Madmartigan dismounts
and rushes to embrace his wife.
Willow also dismounts and Sorsha reaches down to embraces him.
SORSHA
It has been so long, Willow.
WILLOW
It is nice to see you, too,
Sorsha.
SORSHA
We need to talk.
She guides him over to a side where they can be alone. Madmartigan
joins them shortly after getting his stuff straight.
They sit down on a patch of grass in a circle.
SORSHA
I was the last to see Fin Raziel
alive.
WILLOW
What became of her?
SORSHA
She tried to face the sorcerer.
He defeated her. Drained, she
escaped from the castle and I
found her.
Sorsha pulls out the wand that Raziel gave to her at the time of her
death.
SORSHA
She took the remaining magic in
her and concentrated it into this
wand. She said that the right person
wielding this wand would be the only
hope of destroying the Dark Power
that has overtaken the land. Then
she said to find you.
Sorsha gives the wand to Willow.
SORSHA
I believe you are the right person
to carry and to use the wand against
the Dark Sorcerer.
Willow takes the wand and looks at it in wonder.
WILLOW
I will use it to the best of my
ability for the good of the land.
He looks around at his friends.
WILLOW
What is our next move?
Sorsha looks at Madmartigan, then back to Willow.
SORSHA
Cherlindrea wishes to speak with
us as soon as possible.
WILLOW
I would be honored.
They get up and walk into the deep forest. The fairies become more
frequent. They buzz around the visitors, touching them on the face
and so forth as they stop. They look into the sky and one of the
Stars seems to grow brighter.
Then it seems to come near them and grow bigger and bigger until it
reaches them and by then it is in the shape of a Fairy, one much bigger
than the others present in the field.
An ethereal light glows around CHERLINDREA.
CHERLINDREA
Willow, I am glad to see you
here.
WILLOW
I am glad you would have me here.
CHERLINDREA
These are dark times, Willow,
and you are one of the few hopes
we have left to help bring the
light back into the world.
The words are eerily similar to the High Aldwin.
CHERLINDREA
I must tell you of the evil that
threatens our fair land. I must tell
you of the Dark Sorcerer King.
URWAINEAN, The Dark Sorcerer King,
ruled the land in darkness thousands
of years ago in a time long forgotten.
In a great battle, he was exiled into
the walls of the long lost Cave of Agony
by a group of the Land's most powerful
sorcerers. For thousands of years, he
lay forgotten, until the surviving servants
of the dead Queen found and released him.
He began to lay siege to the land, overtaking
it to rule supreme once more. He has driven
the Sorceress Princess, Elora Danan into
hiding. No longer hopefull that the Dark
Sorcerer King will help resurrect
the Evil Queen, the Queen's remaining
faithful have pledged themselves
to Urwainean. With his power behind
them, they are unstoppable.
WILLOW
Is he really unstoppable?
CHERLINDREA
He can be stopped, but it must be by
the right person. And no matter who
that may be, you must find Elora Danan
and have her with you at the time, that
she may take her rightful place on the
throne with the overthrow of the Dark
Sorcerer King. Elora Danan is the key.
You must find her.
WILLOW
What if she is no longer alive?
CHERLINDREA
She is safe, but it won't be long
before she falls into the hands of
the Dark One. This must not happen.
You must make sure this doesn't happen.
WILLOW
But where do we look? The Land is
far and wide. She could be anywhere.
CHERLINDREA
You have friends. Listen to them and
use them. They will help in this area.
If I knew where she was, I would have
had her brought back already. I
can only sense that she is safe, but
a sense of doom is starting to over
shadow that. That is why you must
hurry.
As she says this, her form is growing smaller and she is floating
up towards the sky again.
CHERLINDREA
You must find her. Find Elora
Danan, Willow. You can do it.
Also, when the Dark Sorcerer
King was released, other Dark
Creatures became free to roam the
land. Beware them on your journey.
And with that, she was gone.
Willow looks back at his compatriots.
WILLOW
We must set off as soon as possible.
MADMARTIGAN
Yes, but first we need a good night's
rest. We'll set out first thing in
the morning. You, me, Sorsha and Liam.
Now let's try to get some sleep.
And with that, they go back to join the rest of the group.
END OF ACT I
