10/28/05 [CHAT] Jevin says, "on" [CHAT] Jevin says, "oh it's on, how entertaining" [CHAT] Kalo waves [CHAT] Kalo says, "Welcome to channel CHAT. Today's topic: The pred shortage, and how it will affect oil and gas prices in the new economy." [CHAT] Jevin says, "Methane?" [CHAT] Kalo says, "You have five minutes. Read, think, and explain. There are no wrong answers." [CHAT] Jevin says, "Predator shortage? I rarely get anyone wanting to be eaten by me :) so I don't know anything about it. I think I just owned 5 minutes by the way." [CHAT] Monolith says, "I agree with Jevin. I usually have to sit an wait for someone to want to become a meal for me. :P" [CHAT] Torrle says, "(test)" caen pages, "Flapjack Oh..." to you. [CHAT] Jevin gives Monolith a high 5, or 4, or... Yea. caen pages, "Kalo err... >_> I have no idea how that happened. <_< Sorry" to you. [CHAT] Torrle says, "Heck, I'd scene with either of ya in a heartbeat. I always figure preds are so... hounded for scenes that I always try not to make myself look needy." [CHAT] Kalo says, "Hmm. Something has occured to me. Generally, it seems that the preys contact the preds first, like boys asking girls out to the dance. Or is that just a racist assumption? ... Speciesist? Dietist?" [CHAT] Jevin says, "I've contacted Torrle and vise versa several times, and I have two pets for eating, Tannlore and Sparky, the times I have had things to do have been pretty even with the asking." [CHAT] Torrle says, "Yeah, it seems that way. My kingdom for NC vore! :D" [CHAT] Monolith says, "An therein lies the problem. Everyone thinks preds here are tied up and busy. Really, we're not. Everyone just -thinks- that. So most of us never do anything. An yes, the preys do tend to ask the preds! Think of it.. without that.. every pred alive would just gobble anything that moved! None of us would get anything done around here. :}" [CHAT] Jevin says, "though admittedly I don't ask alot of people I haven't met yet." [CHAT] Kalo says, "Well, I have an idea. How about we have a week where the preds contact the prey instead of the other way around?" [CHAT] Torrle says, "Well, Monolith, to be honest, if you came up and just started gnoshing on me, I really don't think I'd complain at all! I really like gettin' pounced out of the blue. :)" [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur chuckles softly. "I already do most all the contacting already, for prey an' for predators both. I don' need a special 'week' for it. ;)" [CHAT] Monolith agrees there. "Yeah, we don't really need a week for that. I'm known to randomly pounce on preys anyway.. just ask kharlis.. about 2 years ago. :P" [CHAT] Jevin says, "agreed, I play several characters that switch regularly in the scenes I usually have to request myself :) Let's just begin walking around and randomly eating ^^" [CHAT] Torrle says, "I'm all up for that! Over the past year, if I wanted to get et without having to ask, I had to fall asleep in a public area." [CHAT] Kalo says, "So that's two, no, three nominations for random predation. All in favor?" [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "Now -that- idea I'm good for. ;)" [CHAT] Kalo says, "Aye!" [CHAT] Torrle says, "Woohoo!" [CHAT] Jevin says, "Yes, yes, now for a first target..." [CHAT] Torrle hides in plain sight! [CHAT] Jevin also advertises for pets/slaves for his snack room... It's empty ;.; [CHAT] Kalo says, "Are you advertising for snacks in your snack room as well?" [CHAT] Yerua says, "I think that was the implication... :)" [CHAT] Jevin says, "surrrreee." [CHAT] Kalo says, "Where do I sign up?" [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur grins lopsidedly. "I had that odd urge to sneak through people's abodes, an' gobble up people resting in their personal prey rooms.. like the sneaky lil' fox I am. ;)" [CHAT] Torrle says, "I used to do that a lot." [CHAT] Torrle says, "Actually, I used to do it a lot more when I found out that I could swallow people remotely, but thankfully Henri fixed that bug. =) I'd eaten half the muck." [CHAT] Jevin says, "heheh, I'll have to get my but moving and set up belly rooms on this char." [CHAT] Jevin says, "butt*" [CHAT] Torrle says, "Mmmmmmmm.... butt" [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur cackles at Torrle an' cuddles the wuff. "Yer' bad, on so many levels. ;)" [CHAT] Torrle giggles, "Yeah, I got the best reaction from Rogue. ;D [CHAT] Monolith says, "Well that explains a few things.. he knows Rogue. Blah." [CHAT] Jevin says, "heheh" [CHAT] Torrle nods, "Yeah, I #mailed him after I did it, sayin' that he was having the worst nightmare ever... just a dream. ;) [CHAT] Monolith says, "An you lived to tell us? Wow." [CHAT] Torrle chuckles! [CHAT] Jevin says, "yea, he's been exterminated to many times, and he just won't go away." [CHAT] Jevin says, "wolves so own the energizer bunny." [CHAT] Jevin says, "got nothin' on us." [CHAT] Yerua says, "Well, it's only fair. I doubt many of those he exterminates stay put down for that long. :P" [CHAT] Torrle says, "..." [CHAT] Monolith grins widely. "An you wolves have nothing on us dragons.. we -invented- the going and going idea. ;}" [CHAT] Torrle says, "I'll say, you guys take forever to cook in the oven." [CHAT] Jevin says, "it's the darn scales." [CHAT] Jevin says, "mm I have an idea..." [CHAT] Yerua says, "We wait, one and all, with bated breath. :) ...One, at least..." [CHAT] Jevin says, "perhaps we can and by we I mean the people who know MUCK code better than me :) set up a system where you can hunt/find prey kind of like the slave system where furs can become owned, except there's no ownership, that specific fur is simply part of the normal diet of others, making it easy to depict who WANTS to be eaten and then who doesn't/people that aren't sure. Basically trying to make it easier for people to tell who/what can/will be eaten in what way, and trying to form a relationship between the two or more to encourage more paly" [CHAT] Jevin says, "it's not the best explaination as I'm doing work IRL :) but that should get the message across" [CHAT] Yerua says, "A matchmaker system? Or perhaps I misunderstand." [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "We already have most of that in the VorePreferances system. Nice an' simply, it covers all those things so far." [CHAT] Jevin says, "well slaves here are denoted by a lower case letter" [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "An' if you think I'll change my naming conventions to match to up with something for 'easy referance' because people are to lazy to type -two letters- (vp) and my name to check on things.. You got another thing coming. ;)" [CHAT] Torrle says, "Maybe another flag? A 'just pounce me, please' flag." [CHAT] Kalo says, "I nominate 'mrf' !" [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "Now that would be a much better idea. I noticed no listing for that sorta thing, Torrle, and wanted one in there." [CHAT] Yerua says, "That's what the vp #custom command is for?" [CHAT] Torrle agrees. [CHAT] Jevin says, "not saying to change your name, but I've normally had to go through several vore prefs lists beacuse people aren't very specific all the time." [CHAT] Torrle says, "Not enough room in tht." [CHAT] Jevin says, "especially with the sometimes/don't care flag." [CHAT] Jevin says, "which, most of the time, means no :P" [CHAT] Yerua chuckles. "Too true, Jevin!" [CHAT] ## Leena joins channel CHAT. ## [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "Adding a flag that fits is a lot more likely than most other ways. Well, fair chunks of my preferances -are- sometimes. I'm not always in the mood for them. Anything in Sometimes for me is 50/50 chance." [CHAT] Kalo says, "The whole vp to everyone one at a time thing I was talking about in my last post." [CHAT] Leena says, "hey all" [CHAT] Jevin says, "hello" [CHAT] Yerua tries, and fails, to understand 'the whole vp to everyone one at a time thing'. [CHAT] Leena says, "I see that the post I made has gotten people talking. I'm glad that people are thinking about the issue, at least" [CHAT] Jevin says, "it's not an easy one to resolve, especially since everyone has their own tastes :)" [CHAT] Jevin says, "I vote for communism." [CHAT] Jevin hides [CHAT] Kalo says, "Basically, to check who's a pred and who's not, you have to go down the WHO listing, typing vp person_1, vp person_2, vp person_3... and scan through a long list for the one line of info you want. VP is awesome, don't get me wrong." [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "In short, you want a 'List all people online's result for flag <%1>', done probably via 'VP #search %1'?" ERROR: I can't find a player by that name. [CHAT] Kalo says, "Exactly." [CHAT] Yerua says, "wixxx #find prd" [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "I think they want it for more than predator an' prey hunting. I'll admit, I'd use it for more than that, but I also prefer to know everything else at the same time." [CHAT] Jevin says, "not only an issue with finding a match, but an issue of leniency, your not going to get exactly everything you want in an RP, granted you don't have to do anything you don't want to do, but if you don't let something go, then you won't get anything in return." [CHAT] Jevin says, "now if you hate doing what someone is asking there's a reason IMO, but otherwise, if it's not that painful, then try it or don't whine when there's no one to do anything. Not to be mean." [CHAT] Kalo headtilts at Jevin. "I'm confused." [CHAT] Torrle totally agrees with Jevin, actually. [CHAT] Kalo says, "... Oooh. Nevermind, just needed to read it a second time." [CHAT] Leena says, "I think that on a Muck devoted primarily to Vore, anything that more clearly defines the "pred, prey, or both" question is something that bears looking into. I would support any means of more easily finding people you are looking for, even if it's a WHO flag or someting. I can do a "who kalo" to find out his gender, species... why not whether he's pred or prey (or both?)" [CHAT] Monolith says, "Well, something else that gets in the way, an I see this -way- too often." [CHAT] Monolith says, "A prey that does everything they can to get you to do something with them.. an then doesn't say anything in response to you for anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes at a time. That really turns preds off. It takes a few hours to finish a scene proper as it is. :P" [CHAT] Jevin says, "I'm guilty of that once :)" [CHAT] Torrle says, "Although if we can agree that saying, "Hey, are you hungry? ;)", is really NOT too much to ask as an ice breaker." [CHAT] Jevin says, "though I didn't ask for it" [CHAT] Jevin says, "I agreed to do it." [CHAT] Kalo says, "Hey, Leena, are you hungry?" [CHAT] Torrle tends to lag from time to time, but doesn't think he's excessive at all, especially as he tends to lean towards larger poses. [CHAT] Monolith nods at Torrle. "Well that's true. If prey didn't even say hi in some way, most preds probably wouldn't get off their tails to eat. I mean.. we've likely eaten someone before.. those meals will last some of us for days. :}" [CHAT] Jevin says, "they've had too, I'm still digesting Torrle." [CHAT] Jevin says, "and he was barely 25ft tall :(" [CHAT] Torrle tends to enjoy shaping his hello in the form of provoking preds and then suffering the consequences. [CHAT] Monolith says, "Barely? Um.. another thing people need to watch out for here. Watch your sizes people! 25 feet to -me- is huge, as an example." [CHAT] Torrle eeks! [CHAT] Leena says, "As far as the VP function goes, some sort of "basic VP" function would be great - if you're a prey and someone isn't willing to be a pred, then anything beyond the pred: never/opposed is pointless." [CHAT] Torrle says, "Wasn't my fault! I was only 7' to start with. ;)" [CHAT] Jevin says, "I changed him, it was my own little preference :)" [CHAT] Yerua nods... "Alright. There seems to be a consensus that a bit of VP filtering/classifying would be handy." [CHAT] Torrle says, "Even next to you at 25', I was itty." [CHAT] Monolith nods an seconds that one. [CHAT] Kalo says, "I third that, and would also like to suggest the name VQuick." [CHAT] Torrle tangents that he'd like to see soul vore added to vp.. [CHAT] Monolith says, "How bout this one people? The prey you do a vp on.. see a list that looks like stuff you -never- want to do, or a prey that's fully incompatible with you.. but then they turn around and do a scene you're fully into. Where's the logic there? :P" [CHAT] Kalo says, "Prey are desperate?" [CHAT] Kalo says, "Like ugly college girls?" [CHAT] Monolith says, "When you did not suggest any of said scene to them, an they just did it spur-o-tha-moment." [CHAT] Torrle shrugs, "I dunno. Me, I'm really quite flexible, just as long as it's intriguing. [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur hasn't done much with soul vore, since most people consider that ways to end up with 'Final Death' RP's where they stop playing their characters. "So it tends to get a 'taboo' sorta issue from a lot o' folk." [CHAT] Jevin says, "I agree with Torrle, if you can play it well there's nothing I won't try at least once." [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "Not because it's icky or something, just because it's inconveniant. ;)" [CHAT] Monolith says, "It's a tad annoying to have a service like vp around, an then find out that about a quarter or more of the residents here don't even have an accurate listing. Or even worse, a listing completely different than what they really like/dislike." [CHAT] Yerua shakes her head... "That 'final death' is what the 'prey fatality' flag is there to represent anyway." [CHAT] Jevin says, "people take it as final death, but comeon, it's a MUCK, final death? please :P" [CHAT] Jevin says, "unless it's your preference it's not required." [CHAT] Kalo says, "Dev has a big book of soul vore. A good bit of it doesn't involve final death." [CHAT] Torrle agrees with Jevin. "Well, with me, Soul vore ain't final. Especially cuz I'm a pred on that, too [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "To me, prey fatality means the prey gets very dead. Heh. Mmkay then, I guess I -can- indulge again. ;)" [CHAT] Monolith says, " Well, it does sound interesting. Now.. another problem. We can't open the vp to allow any flags someone wants to add. We'd have a vp with enough fields to match the number of preys/preds here! But then.. it seems adding -something- may just help, -provided- people set it accurately!" [CHAT] Kalo says, "How about some way to add individual custom flags?" [CHAT] Monolith says, "I don't see how that's different than the existing custom feature." [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "To add custom flags... I'd just ask Henri an' get a few people to show the need for the flag. :)" [CHAT] Kalo says, "Well, with the existing thing, you only get one line." [CHAT] Torrle says, "True, true.. a couple tips on efficient setting would be good, too. " [CHAT] Yerua says, "The #custom feature is admittedly very space-limited and it's formatted differently." [CHAT] Torrle says, "the custom area really isn't long enough." [CHAT] Kalo says, "What do you mean by efficient setting?" [CHAT] Monolith says, "Not setting male partner Ask first or similarly non setting, but then turning around and happily playing with males. That's an example." [CHAT] Torrle says, "ei:setting 'always' to macro and micro AND samesize vore is really, really irrelevant. :)" [CHAT] Monolith says, "Er.. i mean -setting- male partner as.. whoops." [CHAT] Leena says, "But I believe that finding preds is only part of the problem. Another part of the problem is when preys unknowingly causing preds to "go underground", so to speak. (And this is not to make anyone feel bad, just as an example), when I log on, and I get pages from two people I know and chat with often, and half a dozen from others I don't know or talk to regularly, but I just KNOW are preys looking for a scene, and whom ask for one within at most three pages. I at times dread logging on, because of the ambush that is often waiting, especially on peak hours." [CHAT] Kalo says, "Well, ask first isn't necessarily a no-go statement." [CHAT] Kalo says, "It just means that you should ask first." [CHAT] Monolith wholeheartedly seconds Leena there! [CHAT] Monolith has -been- there many times. :P [CHAT] Yerua says, "Well, we have page #ignore. :P" [CHAT] Kalo says, "As one guilty of ambushing tactics, I admit Leena has a good point." [CHAT] Monolith says, "Now really Yerua.. was that even civil?" [CHAT] Monolith says, "Page #ignoring someone around here is about like a restraining order offline. It's not a happy thing at all." [CHAT] Jevin says, "Personally, Leena, I see that as a problem with either 1. the willingness to actually let a few preferences go, or 2. Talk to new people... I've been pretty flexible in my plays and probably get pages from people I've seen either 1. in other MUCKs, people I know, or 2 I've met here when I began." [CHAT] Jevin says, "so I don't really do many vore scenes with anyone I do not know, nor do I get pages to do so :P" [CHAT] Yerua says, "...What? If someone bothers you, and you know you will not want to communicate with them, I do not see what the problem is. I don't often see a need to use it myself, but I don't see it so... terribly harsh." [CHAT] Monolith says, "Well.. there is the idea that people have moods, feelings, that change. An some days just -are- bad days." [CHAT] Torrle says, "Gah, Total agreement. I get ambushed, and I tend not to pred much (but like to among those I like)" [CHAT] Yerua says, "...On the other hand, yes, I understand the problem of not wanting to come on because of a few given people. There have been days when I connect guest guest, do a quick WHO, and decide given the present population I really might rather not be about..." [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur uses page #ignore when someone doesn't -listen- to saying, "I need some space, -don't- pounce me right when I come on, especially for scening.". If you talk to them first like that, and they keep at it, page #ignoring is understandable an' viable. ;) [CHAT] Monolith chuckles an has had discussions like that with miss whitefur for a -long- time. His opinion is that page #ignoring someone is more a last-resort kind of thing.. an that people should be given ample chance to work out problems.. not just run away from every one that exists. :P [CHAT] Torrle nods with Shirra, "Yeah, I tend to be pretty blunt to those I really don't want to scene with, if they're being so cluelessly desperate. [CHAT] Leena says, "it's not intentional on their part, they probably don't even realize that it's causing a problem. And many times not that I mind getting pages from new people, or having someone request to do a scene, it's logging on and trying to respond to eight people at the same time. If the same amount of people contacted me over the course of an hour, I'd be completely fine with it" [CHAT] Monolith hmmms... [CHAT] Monolith says, "You know.. what if we had something in page where you could set the number of concurrent pages you got over a certain amount of time?" [CHAT] Kalo says, "I think I might have a stopgap solution for that, Leena... assuming I'm using the word stopgap correctly. Give me a sec." [CHAT] Leena says, "it's the "Gasp, a pred, quick, page him so we can get a scene with him before he finds someone else"" [CHAT] Monolith says, "I mean, there's already a function for not being included in multi-pages to more than a certain amount of people..." [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur doesn't mind being told, 'Damn, I'm swamped, can you give me some space?'. Sie doesn't mind being told, 'I'm -trying- to fuck, would you go the heck away?' either. Because sie knows -what- is going on, and what is expected of hir. ;) [CHAT] Jevin says, "Also, it's not a bad thing to have a scene with more than 2 people in it :)" [CHAT] Kalo says, "... Aha, just as I'd remembered. Try wf #hidefrom #all. That way, people won't ambush you immediately, just when they manually check their wf or WHO." [CHAT] Jevin says, "I've done a few of those and they are SO much fun if all 3 or more are trying to make it that way." [CHAT] Monolith nods an agrees with Jevin. [CHAT] Yerua says, "Oh, yes, Multi-person scenes can be great. Multi-person continuities are even better... *starry-eyes*" [CHAT] Torrle playfully gnaws onna Shirrafoxtail and nods at Jevin [CHAT] Monolith can remember being a yoshi in the vore place on Furry. An with Athelind there. Ended up being stuffed, one way or another, with about -half- the furs in the room, then was eaten by Athe.. but the furs he'd eaten were doing their own scene inside his belly. It was like a private movie theatre for him! ;} [CHAT] Jevin says, "Problem with hide though, Kalo, is it blocks your name out of WA" [CHAT] Monolith thinks WA is evuuuuul anyway. [CHAT] Jevin says, "so, you have to use who, which doesn't tell you if they're in a scene or not, no hints." [CHAT] Jevin says, "I usually bar myself from saying things to people that are hiding :P" [CHAT] Monolith says, "A -currently sceneing- flag. There's a good idea." [CHAT] Yerua says, "Well, it WOULD, if people would use the STAT and DOING fields. :P" [CHAT] Torrle yips, "Good idea, Monolith! [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "That's actually a good one, I like that one.. Especially if it showed on WHO an' WA." [CHAT] Torrle says, "true.. I haven't changed mine from LRP in month." [CHAT] Kalo says, "... I don't think using wf's #hidefrom feature prevents wa finding..." [CHAT] Torrle says, "..not that it's ever untrue. ;)" [CHAT] Leena says, "Multi-person scenes are a good thing to do, when possible. However, usually, the multiples must know each other well enough to do a scene, and if several types of vore/whatever is going on, it can get quite complicated." Somewhere on the muck, Leo has disconnected. [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "Nope, it doesn't block the WA finding. Just tested it on an alt. ;)" [CHAT] Yerua says, "But what would the major difference be between @doing and this proposed flag? Would people remember to set the one when they neglect the other?" [CHAT] Monolith says, "You also hit the problem where having more than 2 means one can lag out, an lock the other -2- from doing anything." [CHAT] Jevin says, "hidefrom all?" [CHAT] Monolith hmms. [CHAT] Jevin says, "blocks the WA list at least" [CHAT] Monolith says, "See.. the idea is not like the @doing." [CHAT] Kalo says, "No, just the wf list." [CHAT] Jevin says, "hmmm, then there's another command." [CHAT] Jevin says, "that people are using" [CHAT] Monolith says, "It's more a flag that the muck can set when it sees certain things. So that you -do not- have to remember. If you're in a room an you plus one or more others are sending poses one after another, people on the muck should know you're busy without you having to interrupt said scene to make them aware." [CHAT] Kalo says, "Probably wa #private, or whatever the syntax is." [CHAT] Torrle did a 3way scene earlier today that worked really well, actually. Just set up a posting order and everyone knows when to pose. Any problems are encouraged to be ooc'd so others know of delays. [CHAT] Leena says, "I usually update my Status when I'm looking for a scene... anything but LRP, and I'm either not interested, am already in one, or am in the midst of negotiating a scene." [CHAT] Monolith says, "In fact.. that's probably a good way to make the flag happen. Sheesh.. give me the muck's code an I could have the flag running in an hour or less. :P" [CHAT] Monolith says, "Or even a simple flag programs look for. Instead of @doing, just run a single command. Like @busyY, or @busyN, an there ya go." [CHAT] Yerua says, "So it would be like a more intelligent IDLE field, one that calculates an index based on the frequency of recent poses/actions? " [CHAT] Monolith says, "That could work. Might spam the muck server a bit that way tho." [CHAT] Kalo says, "Hmm. We are raising and discussing some good points here. Would it be okay with everyone if I logged and posted this?" [CHAT] Yerua says, "The idea before that one, I mean. :) I type too slowly sometimes." [CHAT] Jevin says, "go ahead." [CHAT] Leena says, "(of course, I seldom need to set the LRP flag, because upon logon I get enough requests that I am doing a scene within ten minutes" [CHAT] Monolith says, "I know what you meant, Yerua. An yes, go ahead Kalo." [CHAT] Leena says, "aye, captain." [CHAT] Yerua says, "No objection here. It might be best to distill the critical points into a more easily-digestible format, of course." [CHAT] Monolith would think that's assumed anyway. [CHAT] Monolith says, "Even if assuming anything is to sell yer soul. :}" [CHAT] Jevin says, "Also, making commands easier to memorize and use would be cool :)" [CHAT] Jevin says, "currently, without going out of my way I can find several" [CHAT] Yerua says, "'log and post', with the inclusion of 'log', does imply to some degree the use of the actual text. :P" [CHAT] Jevin says, "then I have to go through and figure things out." [CHAT] Kalo says, "Oooh, I have an idea. Let's set up some volunteer greeters or something. Help the newbies and such." [CHAT] Monolith merfs. "Well, there could be program aliases, like there are page aliases. But as there's so many commands, I think that would spam the muck database too big before long. Not to mention all the server work of referencing your commands. Less you wanted the server to store a table to lookup your aliases against the real commands.. which again makes the DB huge. GAH!" [CHAT] Yerua says, "I tend to wf guest[insert number here] so as to be able to do so. :)" [CHAT] Kalo goes afk for a minute. [CHAT] Monolith notes you'll have to excuse the dragon.. he's heavily in programming/scening mode tonite. [CHAT] Jevin says, "you can make things really simple though, Monolith." [CHAT] Jevin says, "for example:" [CHAT] Yerua says, "Excuse you? You're being delightfully helpful, Monolith! No excusing necessary." [CHAT] Jevin says, "the commands wa, wf and whois work with the commands search, flags and prefs." [CHAT] Jevin says, "there's 9 (if I did the math right) sets on a table in that." [CHAT] Jevin says, "instead you get a large file talking about each seperate command" [CHAT] Monolith nods. "You are correct, Jevin. An yes, I suppose for now VoreGotten is not so populated it wouldn't be a problem. We just have to be careful we don't introduce something tha bites our rears later if the muck -does- get popular." [CHAT] Jevin says, "alot of reading gets skipped when your out of time :)" [CHAT] Kalo says, "I'm back." [CHAT] Leena says, "A little community education would go a long way, too. I know that even if the only thing that happened was that people were taught not to jump on any preds the moment they log on, I'd feel a lot better about connecting from time to time. If I have to spend 20 minutes politely declining people's requests for scenes, then I'm less likely to log on just to chat, or whenever I don't have 4 hours to do a scene." [CHAT] Leena says, "And I think that a lot of other preds would feel a lot better too." [CHAT] Monolith nods! "Here here! Or however that goes." [CHAT] Kalo says, "Oooh, let's hold classes! And at the end, the class dissolves into a multi-person chaotic predation scene! ... that last part's optional." [CHAT] Monolith says, "Of course there's always the flipside Leena, when you pop in here an can sit for like 5 or more hours an count all the occupants on a single paw. :}" [CHAT] Jevin says, "I agree, though I don't think it's always a case that the Prey are always pouncing preds, they're pouncing preds which they've does things with/are "popular' so to speak" [CHAT] Monolith has enough popularity to give hand-outs. :P [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur grins lopsidedly. "I'm relatively thankful that most of my infamy and popularity has died away. Means I don' have to club people as much. :)" [CHAT] Jevin says, "and on the flip side I could certainly deal with a few more :)" [CHAT] Kalo says, "Club, drag home, and then eat?" [CHAT] Jevin says, "send some over here >.>" [CHAT] Monolith says, "My vote: Whitefur for Muck Bouncer! Not that we needed one, but hey.. you never know....." [CHAT] Yerua grins. "Or those who semi-worship you do so discreetly. :)" [CHAT] Leena says, "again Jevin, education is the key. Instead of waiting for the "popular" preds, they might look for preds that are less known, and may just find that they get more scenes in with a good RP'r who's into they things they are." [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur chuckles softly. "Actually, I've been official 'Bitch Staff and Professional Bouncer/Banner' as wiz staff for places.. I'm not planning on doing it again though. ;)" [CHAT] Monolith kinda.. creates his own popularity. Simply because he knows a lot of furs.. an then vanishes from any online activities for weeks or even months at a time. really can't be helped in his case. [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "An' as for clubbing, Kalo.. noo, when I decide to club something, it's meant to just be dead, sorry. ;)" [CHAT] Kalo awwws. [CHAT] Jevin says, "true Leena, though it's more common sense if you ask me :P" [CHAT] Monolith nods.. quite true.\ [CHAT] Jevin says, "if you get on daily to ask someone a question (I want to be eaten) of course they won't be happy with you." [CHAT] Jevin says, "that's if your not trying to get to know them." [CHAT] Monolith also eats the stray slash! :O \ [CHAT] Torrle used to be pretty well known, but then dove into a low profile, where he's more comfy. ^^ [CHAT] Leena says, "If theres one thing that I've learned, it's that common sense is not as common as many believe." [CHAT] Yerua says, "Common sense is common mostly to those who swear by it." [CHAT] Monolith yays an claps for Leena! "Great point there hon. ;}" [CHAT] Leena says, "and that the definition of common sense varies from person to person, depending on their age, geographic location, and upbringing" [CHAT] Kalo says, "I like to think that I'm Internet-American." [CHAT] Monolith says, "You forgot mood.. state of drunken-ness.. education.. income.. need I go on? ;}" [CHAT] Yerua says, "That doesn't make the first few any less true. :P" [CHAT] Leena says, "if common sense were indeed "common", then there would be no need for the concept to exist, since everyone would know it." [CHAT] Jevin says, "I dunno, annoying someone is annoying someone, its probable that there are cases where someone doesn't know, but asking someone to the extent of doing it daily or even bi daily, especially if you don't know them... Shrug" [CHAT] Monolith chuckles. [CHAT] Jevin says, "I think people have it, they just don't always apply it." [CHAT] Monolith says, "Well.. to some people being asked a lot may be a sign someone likes them, or really wants to do something with them. But to others, it's an annoyance. It's why we all are talking about more flags. You know.. I don't think it's the flags we're really digging at here. We're just trying to find an outlet for our frustrations at how tiny our kink has gotten. :P" [CHAT] Yerua says, "Or rather how hard it is to find and connect with those you -know- are out there who match your kink? :)" [CHAT] Monolith says, "An by tiny.. I mostly mean the predators. It seems there's floods that want to be prey.. but no bellies for them to land in." [CHAT] Monolith says, "If ya say pred-bot, I'll club ya myself." [CHAT] Leena says, "Well, if people only asked people who had to LRP flag up for scenes, instead of people IC, OOC, IDLE, AFK, etc., then things would go smoother. But some people don't think about it. If most people did, we wouldn't be having this conversation" [CHAT] Yerua says, "And that both stems from and feeds the problem that so many so often forget to set said flags." [CHAT] Monolith says, "Which is why I suggest that you can set a page-flag that changes if you turn your RP available flag on or off, so you don't get pages except from an approved list if your RP flag is off." [CHAT] Jevin says, "needless to say there's an infinate amount of variables that come into this." [CHAT] Jevin says, "we've hit alot of them, but still can't seem to resolve it :)" [CHAT] Leena says, "One point in MUCK etiquette education for everyone, and the problem would be greatly helped" [CHAT] Yerua grins. "Well, we're trying to refine a system, not perfect one!" [CHAT] Monolith says, "And then have your rp flag auto-set itself if it sees a threshold of more than say 2 to 4 poses in a row from 2 or more furs in the same room." [CHAT] Jevin says, "you won't be able to educate everyone, besides the rules already give you a good bases." [CHAT] Jevin says, "basis*" [CHAT] Jevin says, "most here would probably ignore it." [CHAT] Jevin says, "because, really, who wants to be the 'bad guu?'" [CHAT] Jevin says, "guy too" [CHAT] Monolith says, "an then just pair those with a flag so if more than say x people paged you in the last y minutes, the rest would see a 'that fur is busy, please try again later' message of some sort." [CHAT] Jevin says, "and you can't make it mandatory, not without harming the player base." [CHAT] Monolith says, "Put the 3 together an it may be a decent harmony that could help solve the problems somewhat." [CHAT] Monolith says, "It's not perfect.. but hey.. I'm a dragon, not a god. :}" [CHAT] Kalo says, "In some cultures, that's one and the same." [CHAT] Leena says, "It shouldn't be that complicated. Everyone learns to remember to set the flag, and then to check for it, and *BAM* improvement. Part of the problem as I see it is that it's just so damn complicated... there's how many pseudonyms for +finger alone?" [CHAT] Kalo says, "+grope?" [CHAT] Kalo says, "Sorry." [CHAT] Yerua says, "cinfo and pinfo at least." [CHAT] Monolith chuckles. "Well, I just suggested those things because teachings can be forgotten, or ignored, but a muck-forced flag is hard to work around. ;}" [CHAT] Monolith says, "An since all of us preds think something has to be done.. well. :P" [CHAT] Leena says, "I think that instead of pushing all the features on people all at once, we teach them a few basics. Then, after they've enough experience, we introduce things like wixxx and witf and size and every other modifier we can set. By giving it to them all at once, we teach that it's all equally important (or not important)" [CHAT] Monolith nods an agrees with that, yes. [CHAT] Kalo says, "I'm not a pred." [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "This may be not a 'nice' thought, but from my years in staffing positions, I've gotten used to seeing that a -lot- of people aren't interested in learning, and prefer to remain ignorant and stupid, as an excuse to do things their way." [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur says, "I'm all for a system based 'aid' in dealing with such problems. Ignorance can be cured.. stupidity can't, short of an ounce of lead." [CHAT] Jevin nods [CHAT] Monolith is glad not everything is handled shirra's way. "Hon.. we do want to -have- prey items that are still alive when this is done. ;}" [CHAT] Monolith says, "No offense to those preys here, mind you. It seems most here are the good lot.. it's the ones not part of this discussion that need to learn to back off sometimes. :P" [CHAT] Leena says, "When someone first comes onto the Muck, they should have at most maybe five things to remember. See who's on, see who's looking to have a scene, see what they're preferences are, how to contact them, and then how to do the scene. The easier we can make it, the better things would go" [CHAT] Yerua chuckles. "Most of the more inconsiderate and grasping and ignorant wouldn't take the trouble to join in on the #chat command. ;)" [CHAT] Kalo says, "How about if I start up my Boredom series of posts again, with the focus on proper scening ettiquete and such?" [CHAT] Jevin says, "I think many would still ignore it, even in pieces." [CHAT] Jevin says, "there's a tendency to not care as long as you know af ew commands, then everyone else can make up for laziness." [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur nods to Monolith. "And I'm glad it's not handled my ways either. I know I'm not nice, and overly hostile. ;)" [CHAT] Leena says, "I don't know if it's possible, but maybe a type of "basic mode" and then "expanded mode", like ICQ does? teach them a few things, and then if they CARE ENOUGH to learn more, open up the expanded mode, with more options" [CHAT] Jevin says, "that system might work, and until you DO open "expanded mode" you can't use those commands" [CHAT] Jevin says, "so, there's at least a little incentive to figure it out." [CHAT] Jevin says, "and if you already know then you can open it and walk through." [CHAT] Monolith says, "Of course then we run the risk of seeming too hostile towards newbies, an that may have it's own backlash we haven't gotten into yet. :P" [CHAT] Kalo says, "There's always a catch, isn't there." [CHAT] Monolith says, "You have to remember people can take things in ways you'll never see coming, until it happens." [CHAT] Jevin says, "either way you do it, you risk that, though." [CHAT] Monolith says, "True enough.. which is kinda my point." [CHAT] Leena says, "But until people can figure out whether someone is looking for a partner, I don't care if they like cooking scenes or same size vore or grab and gulp or whatever, if they can't tell when there's a possibility for a scene or not by the Status flag, then I don't want to do a scene with them anyways." [CHAT] Leena says, "you have to learn how to type before you can learn how to program in .NET" [CHAT] Jevin says, "it's not completely on the commands or flags either, there's a LITTLE responsiblity that lands on the player to be intelligent." [CHAT] Jevin says, "at least a little, I'd say more than many would like to think :P" [CHAT] Jevin says, "it really does boil down to does this person know how to take hints, take a no, be lenient, be reasonable and yes there are many definitions of that, but learning those definitions and applying is key." [CHAT] Jevin says, "and that takes intelligence." [CHAT] Leena says, "a four-year old can play mozart, if enough effort is spent teaching them." [CHAT] Yerua says, "A good community member versus a bad community member. A sharer versus a taker. :P" [CHAT] Jevin says, "true Leena, but wouldn't that 4 year old rather play outside?" [CHAT] Yerua says, "Depends on the four-year-old? There's no accounting for taste. :)" [CHAT] Jevin says, "don't take responsiblity off of the person making decisions fo their actions, true enough we have to make it as easy as possible, but they have to be willing." [CHAT] Jevin says, "and open minded, and ready to think things through." [CHAT] Jevin says, "whether their from asia or or mongolia" [CHAT] Leena says, "Aside from giving every person who logs on a mandatory competence test, the only thing we can do is give them the tools and make it as easy as possible to learn. The few that slip through that have no intelligence will be ignored soon enough." [CHAT] Leena says, "last I checked, Mongolia was on the continent of Asia" [CHAT] Leena says, "from Asia or from Europe would be a better example" [CHAT] Jevin says, "I think you got the point either way, giving commands is great and everything, experience also helps is what I'm trying to put through." Somewhere on the muck, Kogi has disconnected. [CHAT] Jevin says, "have some decency to try people before you knock them out into the cold." [CHAT] Leena says, "agreed. A person with 20 years behind the wheel of a care will be better at driving than someone with only 20 minutes. In both cases however, one must still learn the basics before they're ever let onto the road, for everyone's sake." [CHAT] Leena says, "*car, not care" [CHAT] Yerua giggles. "Such wonderful metaphors we all employ." [CHAT] Leena says, "analogies." [CHAT] Yerua says, "I would say metaphors, myself; you liken a newbie to the MUCK as a newbie in a car, without 'like' or 'as' or other qualifier or outside explanation. But it is of little consequence. :)" [CHAT] Kalo says, "Geography and grammar are insignificant next to the power of the VORE." [CHAT] Yerua likes grammar with her vore though! :P [CHAT] Monolith cackles! [CHAT] Jevin says, "yes, I can agree with that, I simply felt too much was being put on getting commands through :)" [CHAT] Shirra_Whitefur quietly gets this odd thought of 'Grammer Crackers'. Sie shakes hir head.. "Nope, I need more caffiene. ;)" [CHAT] Yerua says, "The semicolon-shaped ones would be so hard to produce; people would always take them to be an extra period and comma. :/" [CHAT] Monolith baps Shirra. "bad monkey.. fox.. er.. yeah. :P" [CHAT] Kalo says, "Grammar garnish. Perfect for the underverbose prey." [CHAT] Leena says, "Analogy: Similarity in some respects between things that are otherwise dissimilar. A comparison based on such similarity. Metaphor:A figure of speech in which a word or phrase that ordinarily designates one thing is used to designate another, thus making an implicit comparison, as in a sea of troubles or All the world's a stage" [CHAT] Yerua shrugs and still holds that both apply. [CHAT] Leena says, "In any case, I think that the problem lies not in the coding of the MUCK, but in the community, and that informing the community of such problems that may be and how we can all help alleviate them is the best possible solution." [CHAT] Kalo says, "To put it another way, we need to invest less in firetrucks and more in smokey the bear ads?" [CHAT] Torrle waves g'night, since all of those he's watchin' for are on chat anyways. "See ya later!" [CHAT] Leena says, "later Torrle" [CHAT] Monolith says, "Anyways peoples.. I have to go. I'm like uber-tired right now. Anyone wants a belly-bed they better ask the dragon quick.. I only take 'em before I pass out." [CHAT] Jevin says, "buh Bye Torrle." [CHAT] Kalo says, "Bye Torrle, bye Monolith." [CHAT] Leena says, "by Monolith." [CHAT] Jevin says, "later Monolith" [CHAT] Leena says, "damn my fingers aren't typing the way they're supposed to..." [CHAT] Yerua says, "Do take care. It's been good talking, even if I seem to be in a rather arrogant mood. :P" [CHAT] Leena says, "yes Kalo, more Smokey the Bear ads. "Remember kids, don't play with matches or lighters! Ask mommmy and daddy to light the fire you plan to cook Susie with..."" [CHAT] Monolith laughs hard! "Oh that's a good one Leena. ;}" [CHAT] Kalo says, "My point exactly. Those ads would be much more effective if they involved vore and cooking." [CHAT] Yerua says, "But only if she wants to be cooked! Check first to see that she's into that, and then again to be sure that she isn't already with someone! :P" [CHAT] Leena says, ""And then be sure to leave some for your old pal Smokey!"" [CHAT] Yerua says, "'Cos if you don't, he'll find other ways of making you share... :9" [CHAT] Monolith falls over. "Leena.. save that somehow. I'm sure those taglines will be helpful. *urp* Have fun everybody!" [CHAT] Jevin says, "this purple writing pains the eyes after a while :P" [CHAT] Kalo says, "... Did you have to say that? That's like asking someone how often they blink. ... Damn, sorry." [CHAT] Leena says, ""Or asking them if the achy leg where the fox ate some still hurts after they've forgotten..."" [CHAT] Jevin says, "what can I say? I have a gift." [CHAT] Leena says, "yeah, the letter bomb I sent you earlier this week :P" [CHAT] Leena says, "is there any way to change the color? Like, a preferences switch?" [CHAT] Kalo says, "No idea, other than turning ansi off." [CHAT] Jevin says, "So send my love a letterbomb and visit me in hell!!!" [CHAT] Yerua says, "There is. I have been reading it for the past few minutes..." [CHAT] Leena says, "sorry, I don't know where Richard Simmons lives..." [CHAT] Yerua says, "But I'm afraid that the 'real' way to do it is too hard for me to remember... and the really easy command to change all your color settings is one I don't remember. It IS out there, though, and I will find it eventually... :/" [CHAT] Jevin says, " @set me=_prefs/ansi/chat:" [CHAT] Jevin says, "chat #help lists a few" [CHAT] Yerua says, "Yes, that is the 'real' way that I am too lazy for. ;) I'll find the other..." [CHAT] Kalo says, "I think I'm gonna find someone to ambush-er, RP with." [CHAT] Leena says, "I think we've got enough here for you to make that summary board post you mentioned." [CHAT] Kalo says, "Ah, I'll do that first, then. Logging will stop in twenty seconds, any final comments should be said before then." [CHAT] Leena says, ""Educating today's youth", Springfield elementary. "Re-educating today's youth," springfield military school"
