Working

The high cost of living means that many Hawaii residents work more than one job.  That is, those who can find a job.

High cost of housing hear "town" (Honolulu) means that many residents are moving farther from the city to outlying communities such as Mililani, Kapolei or beyond.  This makes for long commutes (1+ hours each way), with many families leaving home between 5 and 6 a.m.

Rush hour can be hectic...depending on how you time it, a 20-30 minute ride from the Windward side of Oahu can take 75 minutes during rush hour.

Traffic patterns may change in January, '01 as the Governor has announced a change in state workers' start times - from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m.
