I bet you had to take a second look at this hot fresh ride, I bet you thought it was on the Fast and the Furious movie! Well looks may be deceiving. When Bomben Ballesteros of Waipahu Hawaii saw The Fast And The Furious; Bomben came up with Ideas for his 1999 Honda Prelude. He wanted is ride to stand out on the streets and at shows plus represent his car club Grounded Lowcals His first goal was to get this all done by the 2001 Import Show Off in Honolulu Hawaii.
First goal for Bomben was finding the right paint shop that could take on a job that called for the duplication of the orange supra, but not with a Supra, but with his Honda Prelude Midnight Dream After searching for days he finally found that shop that would take on that task!
That shop he found was Midnight Customs, shop owner Joe Ono knew this wasnt going to be an easy task, but with his expertise in the past years building show winning lowriders Joe knew that he could duplicate what he did with the lowrider scene and do it once more with the new trend of the import cars! So Joe started right away wasting no time, the Prelude was striped down to bare. Than the task of body mods was first taken into creating. Joe knew what had to be done to score points from the judges, Joe shaved all the door handles and installed the remote door actuators to open with a press of a button. Next task was installing and molding of the ground effects.
A Wings West Aggressive front spoiler, and to finish the wrap around look Bomben chose Black Widow side and rear skrits. Once the body kit installed Joe knew that there was more that he could do and molded the kit to the body for a smooth clean look. After all the dust cleared it was time for the paint. So Joe mixed up a custom color from House Of Colors that came out to a bright orange pearl. So the orange base was shot and the car had color now. Also now that the body having color Joe took on the task of painting the dash, and door panels with a special paint so that the paint would stick to the panels. A candy lime green tribal flame was added to the door panels. With things starting to come together now Bombens dream was coming true. Now the most time taking task was ready to be done the art work! With miles of tape and many hours Joe duplicated the art that was on the Supra on to the Prelude but a few minor modifications and adjustments, Joe also added tears and tribal graphics to the art. Now with the help of Lui the graphics of the robot was painted and finishing touches by Joe with the painting of the tears and tribal art in a candy lime gold. With all the art work done now was putting gloss to Bombens Dream, 2 gallons of clear was sprayed and hours of color sanding and buffing this Prelude was now almost done.
All this time while the car was at the paint shop the seats was at Aero Upholstery being stitched up with a black and orange theme.
Now to finish up his ride a set of Skunk Works adjustable struts was used to lower the car to that slammed look and a set of 17 inch wheels wrapped with
17-205-40 Falcons for the low profile look. The next and final step was his engine work. First was to free up the backpressure by having headers and a dual exhaust installed by Exhaust Systems Hawaii. 2inch Piping and to cap off the sound was an Apex muffler. Now with the engine breathing more freely his engine needs more air intake so an AEM cold air intake system was installed.
With just enough time the car just barely made the show in time. Now Bombens goal was a dream come true. What we have is The Fast And The Furious 2 Live in Hawaii! And how the name of this car came about is by the shop that made it all come true Midnight Customs so thats why he dedicated his ride to Joes Shop and called it Midnight Dream At the Import Show Off every one was amazed at his ride and won the best graphics category! So if you see this wild ride on the and probably thought you saw the Supra in the movie it not, its just what we might say Looks May Be Deceiving
