On a cycle the frame is gone. You're completely in contact with it all. You're in the scene, not just watching it anymore, and the sense of presence is overwhelming. That concrete whizzing by five inches below your foot is the real thing, the same stuff you walk on, it's right there, so blurred you can't focus on it, yet you can put your foot down and touch it anytime, and the whole thing, the whole experience, is never removed from immediate consciousness.

Why do I like bikes and why I ride?

The question asked to all people who love bikes and riding their bikes. Every biker has his own reasons, his own answers, his own joys....

Why I love bikes is because they teach me what life is about . Yes, they do in a way. When I ride I am on constant alert, looking out for hazards in the making, knowing there are a lot of risks involved. That is how life is too - full of risks. You can trust no one but the people with you - your circle, your group.
Riding is all about forgetting myself for a period of time. Forgetting that  I have to get to work every Monday, that I have to make money. Forgetting bugs, programs and annoying people.
People say they love looking at the scenes passing by. But with me it is not so. I almost never notice most of the stuff outside of the road and the borders of the road. The rest of the world is just a blurring canvas of images and pictures when I am on the bike. Except when I force myself to take a break from the monotony of the snaking black line to see what is outside it.... Everything needs a lit of variety, doesn't it? I wear a full-faced helmet and so I cannot say that I ride to feel the wind blowing on my face. Except ofcourse when I really want to that and open my visor....

I just realised that the way I ride reflects my life. When I do something I am always focussed on what lay head on and don't bother much with the frills. But I do take breaks often from that monotony to have a freaking, fun-filled time. My full-faced, closed helmet shows my introvert nature. I am mostly closed to people. And I don't consider that a curse.

Maybe I could say that I ride cos I want to, cos that is me.  Cos riding is life... an extension.

The Bike

I own a  February 2003, Bajaj Pulsar 180CC bike. Considered one of the best bikes yet produced indigenously in India. Look here.

My Biker Friends

I am a member of this online community called PUG (Pulsar User Group). Started as a forum for Pulsar-owners to help each other by Shashvat Sinha, it has now blossomed into a community of like-minded bikers irrespective of the bikes they own. PUG is committed to safe biking, every member is made aware of the risks involved in biking and the preventive measures they can use. Helmets, shoes and jackets are a must with gloves and paddings a strict reccomendation.
Rides are organised as a result of somebody posting a suggestion to ride to some place.
