| Great things happened in the 80's. George and Weezy moved on up to a deluxe apartment in the sky and Jack, Janet and Crissy asked us to come and knock on their door. We all wondered who shot J.R. while the Valley Girls were like gagging on spoons. After we outgrew our Underoos we swooned over Rick Springfield. Mary Lou Retton was "supercharged" and graced the front of the Wheaties cereal box. While we were wondering "Where's the beef" President Reagan was dealing with the Iran Contra Affair. We tuned in to see the Chicago Bears do the "SuperBowl Shuffle", watched MTV come to life with their first video by the Buggles "Video Killed The Radio Star", and felt a sense of belonging when we sang "I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke." Max Headroom told us to drink Diet Coke, Olivia Newton John made legwarmers and headbands stylish, Cabbage Patch Kids got adoptive homes, and we all tried to coiff our hair into something very, very big. Remember all the Dan Quayle jokes? Remember when it didn't matter what your sexual orientation was, you could wear rainbow suspenders just like Mork? Remember way back before Baywatch when David Hasselhoff wowed us with his car K.I.T.T.? And some young actor named Denzel Washington was cast on St.Elsewhere. Stars such as Madonna, Michael Jackson and Bill Cosby achieved a new level of success in their careers. Did anybody ever actually solve a Rubik's Cube? |
