The Cuban Chemistry Society is pleased to invite you to the 5th
International Congress on Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, to be held
October 18th - 22nd, 2004, at the Havana International
Conference Center. The aim of this event is to divulge and discuss, in a wide
cultural and social atmosphere, the most recent scientific, industrial and
teaching advances in all fields of chemistry. The theme of the congress will be
“The Challenge of Chemistry Development
to the Developing Countries”, 8 Master Lecturers have been invited for
this.
The scientific program includes master and plenary lectures, oral
presentations, posters exhibition and round tables. Four scientific sessions
and the 2nd International Symposium on Biochemistry and Molecular
Biology have been scheduled.
The high scientific standard of the Congress, the wide participation of
international specialists and the exchange with Cuban chemists and biochemists
attending the event, will allow the creation of a working atmosphere that along
with the facilities and amenities offered by the Havana International Conference
Center, will help reinforce
acquaintances consolidate new friendships in view of future joint
projects.

English and Spanish (simultaneous
interpretation will be offered in the Master Lectures of the Congress)
Abstracts must be sent by email with the
registration form before May 25, 2004 to the corresponding Session Secretary.
Secretary emails and names have been previously mentioned. Abstract selection
will be completed by the Scientific Committee and the official acceptance will
be known by email before July 25, 2004. “Last minute” registrations for poster
presentations will be accepted until October 18, 2004 (16:00 hrs), which will
be presented on a separated area of the Center. “Last minute” delegates will
receive a registration badge and an attendance certificate.
§
Abstracts must be presented
in (8.5x11”) sheets of paper, typed at one and a half space. Text should be
written in Arial font (11 points) with Word 6.0 (Microsoft) as minimum.
§
Abstract title should be
centered in capital and bold letters. Author(s) name(s) should be written as
initial(s) followed by family name(s) at three spaces from the title. Authors
names must be separated by commas underlining the one who will present the
paper. Afterwards, the author’s institution(s) must be identified as follows:
institution name(s), postal address, city and country. It is recommended to add
telephone, fax and email.
§
Abstract text will start at
three spaces from the institutional identification, without heading, paragraph
indention, nor additional spaces between paragraph. Organizational elements may
be used within the text to help its better comprehension (numbers, sings,
figures, etc.)
§
Abstracts shall not exceed
one page. It is recommended to use the following abstracts structure:
presentation of the problem, working hypothesis, main methods or techniques
employed, results and their importance. Whenever possible, it is recommended to
include reaction schemes, formulae, drawings or other graphical methods which
can contribute to attract the attention of the reader. A reaction scheme is
equivalent to dozens of words.

It is recommended to include
current bibliographic references about the work topic (no more than three)
§
Abstracts with amendments,
deletions or hand writing notes will not be accepted.
§
Abstracts will be published
on a normal issue of Revista Cubana de Química.
§
Abstracts must be sent by
email.
Posters must be presented in
a 82 cm wide and 120 cm long form. Authors will dispose of time to assembly
their works. The author must remain by his work at the time of the exhibition
to answer any possible question.

Affiliates to IUPAC shall be granted
a 10% discount on registration fees by submitting a document accrediting as
such. IUPAC sponsorship guarantees
that all entrance visas requested by bona fide chemists not less than three
month before the meeting shall be granted. If visa is not granted a month
before the meeting opening date, the applicant shall notify the IUPAC
Secretariat as soon as posible.

Conference Center nor of Sol Caribe Tours, will have to carry out the visa
procedures by themselves at the Diplomatic Representation of Cuba in their
countries.
