Vandals smashed the windows and slashed the tires of over a dozen UC Santa Cruz vehicles near the university's heating plant, UCSC officials confirmed.
All four tires were slashed on at least 10 of the vehicles, and all vehicles had at least one window broken, according to UCSC spokesperson Liz Irwin.
Incidents of vandalism have plagued the campus for months, but Monday night's damage marks the single largest incident on campus since January, Irwin said. She estimated the recent vandalism attack would cost the university thousands of dollars but did not have an exact figure.
It's also unclear if this week's incident is related to previous vandalism reported on campus.
"We have no way to know," Irwin said.
Vandals did not leave any messages behind and no witnesses have come forward.
This week's damage adds to a growing list of crime at UCSC, according to Irwin.
At UCSC's Porter College, 15 security card readers were destroyed at various dorm entrances in March. The incidents also include slashed tires, broken doors and smashed windows.
A number of vandalism incidents have recently been reported beyond the campus as well.
