This page is dedicated to the spring area scout camp. It is called the Bear Claw and is most often held every victoria day weekend. It is opened to all Scouts, Venturers, Rovers and, with permission from the planning comitee, third year cubs. The camp has been running since 1985.

Part of this spring camporee is the bear claw ceremony. It is a society created to honor scouting and amerindian traditions. To fully understand this a person has to undergo the ceremony. Currently there are 4 levels of the bear claw clan:

1st level:
Bronze bear claw. this is given to a first time participant upon completion of the bronze ceremony.
2nd level:
Silver bear claw. This is given to a person who has participated in 3 bear claw camps upon completion of the silver ceremony.
3rd level:
Black bear claw. This is given to a person who has attended 6 bear claw camps.
4th level:
Gold Bear claw. This is the bear claw that is given to a person for services rendered to the completion of the bear claw camp. Current gold bear claw members hold a council to vote in new members. There is no predetermined number of years to receive this, but the only stipulation is the recipiant has to have previously received the broze bear claw.

One big event at the bear claw camp is the jousting tournament, that is every year visited by our own Jasper and Josephine.

Another important event is the pink hippo parade. The winner of this dubious event gets to take home the hippo and take care of it for the next year.

This year's camporee is scheduled for the 18, 19, 20 and 21 of May, 2007. The theme for this year is about making a documentary on the 100 years of scouting.

Use the drop menu below to see information about previous bear claw camps. If you are brought back to this page that means the page for that particular camp has not been added yet. try again soon because new pages will be added A.S.A.P.

There is currently some discussion as to the next step for the bear claw. there are some rumours of getting a bear claw hall of honours or, if you prefer, hall of fame going. We would appreciate any feedback you would have to this idea, and any nominations you might have. Please send all comments to [email protected].
