Summer Camp 2001
Great Tower

Situated on the East side of Lake Windermere, midway between Bowness and Newby Bridge, Great Tower's 250 acres of heavily wooded and rocky terrain offer many varied camp sites, ranging from large areas close to camp centre facilities for younger and less experienced groups, to isolated woodland clearings to test the skills of more experienced campers.

This year we, the 14th Darlington Scout Troop, went to Great Tower for our yearly Summer Camp, Great Tower 2001.

We set off from the Scout Centre early Saturday morning and arrived back the following Saturday afternoon.
We went abseiling, indoor climbing, sailing, archery, cycling, attempted an assault course, won a basketball competition and did many other competitions and activities.
It was a great laugh although the weather was a bit rubbish with rain most days!
I was a Patrol Leader at Great Tower and found some times hard, I enjoyed it but found the other camps I went to better in some ways (the weather was probably part of it).
I would recommend Great Tower, Lake District to other scouts (as it is a scout camp) and would recommend giving Summer Camps a go.
I have learned a lot from the camp about Leadership and camp skills and reccomend camps to all scouts. They are the best part of Scouts and you learn a lot from them.
Yes I will stop now as it is beginning to sound like a biography of me.
