--Absolute Fighting Championship 1--
1. Igor Vovchanchyn vs. Adilson Lima
A really vicious fight with the BJJ fighter being just overwhelmed by the might of Igor's strikes. After a not-so-controversial opening where Vovchanchyn kicks an already dazed Lima, the fight is continued and the Russian finishes the job. Lima appears to be almost out on his feet as Igor decks him into oblivion in only his 2nd fight ever.
Rating: **1/4 (Standing/Striking)

2. Ricardo Morais vs. Maxim Tarasov
Morais, a Renzo Gracie disciple, schools the Russian Judo fighter. With all his size and skill, it's disappointing Morais became a Conan Silviera (footnote in MMA history) instead of an elite BJJ heavyweight.
Rating: **1/2 (Standing/Combo)

3. Igor Vovchanchyn vs. Mikhail Illoukhine
Vovchanchyn's inexperience shows here when he takes on a RINGS veteran. Illoukhine gets the takedown, but Igor fights back with sheer will and shuts out a lot of pain. While the technique is not superb and the finish is tainted, this is a great fight and a must-see for Vovchanchyn fans.
Rating: ***1/2 (Ground/Combo)

4. Ricardo Morais vs. Mikhail Illoukhine
The Brazilian-Russian final with two great fighters. Illoukhine works the takedown and uses lots of headbutts and punches beautifully. Moraes takes a pounding here for sometime before making a great reversal and getting the finish.
Rating: **3/4 (Ground/Striking)

--World Extreme Fighting 9--
5. Dave Menne vs. Jose "Pele" Landi
Menne, a heavy underdog, looks great here going right at Pele, who brags a sparkling reputation at this point in time. Menne tries submissions, uses some ground n' pound and does not back down when they stand up. Pele never really looks like a world class striker as Menne is able to fend off or absorb most of his shots. A lot of excitement in a great championship fight...makes me wanna watch more of this lower level fighting.
Rating: **** (Combo/Combo)

6. Dan Severn vs. Marcus "Conan" Silviera
Two name heavyweights square off in a superfight. Conan puts up a fight at first, but the bigger Severn gets him down and elbows him into a daze before putting the pressure on with a side choke. Though he's too old to compete in the big leagues, Severn is still a helluva a fighter. On the other side, Conan has to be one of the great disappointments of MMA.
Rating: **1/2 (Ground/Striking)

--Extreme Challenge 15--
7. Andre Roberts vs. Jason Brewer
If you like brawling fat guys...why do you watch MMA still? I mean, this fight is for you. Roberts, the best Native American fighter I've ever seen, looks like a real killer here. He gets a big takedown and then ground n' pounds Brewer into the mat. Really one-sided, but these fights sure please the crowd.
Rating: **1/2 (Ground/Striking)

8. Jeremy Horn vs. Noe Hernandez
A methodical Horn takes down and works over Hernandez to a decision victory. For those who enjoy matwork this is a pretty good one. Noe has some "DEATH" trunks on that freak me out and that might be the best looking thing he brought to this fight.
Rating: **3/4 (Ground/Striking)

9. Dan Severn vs. Kevin Rosier
Another one-sided beating from "The Beast." Rosier's claim to fame is he competed at the first UFC, five years prior, he actually faired better there, where he at least made it to the second round. Severn makes it look easy here with knees to the side of the head this time in another decisive win.
Rating: **1/2 (Ground/Striking)

--World Vale Tudo Championship 5--
10. Nick Nutter vs. Paul Varelans - 9 (Ground/Striking)
The announcers really hype Varelans...why? Nutter is a Hammer House wrestler turned fighter and has some real promise. Nutter takes him down immediately and batters Varelans until he draws major blood. Pretty brutal and leaves you without a doubt that Varelans doesn't belong in MMA anymore.
Rating:

11. Igor Vovchanchyn vs. Nick Nutter
Igor with more experience, but less gas in the tank (due to earlier fights) takes on the relatively fresh, young wrestler in a split-second fight. Which ending comes true?
A) Vovchanchyn steps in and tags Nutter on the chin with his notorious right
B) Nutter slams Vovchanchyn on the base of his neck
C) Vovchanchyn scores a knee to the chin on the shooting Nutter

--Brazil Open--
12. Dan Henderson vs. Eric Smith
Two American wrestlers from the top two wrestler-turned-fighter camps: the RAW Team and the Hammer House. It's not going to ruin anything if I tell you Henderson wins because we all know his win-loss record, but how does he do it? A strong right with an instant KO or a guillotine choke that puts Smith right out?
Rating: n/a

13. Kevin Randleman vs. Tom Erickson
Another RAW Team vs. Hammer House battle. This one is a little more hard to predict than the last as both are name heavyweights. Will it be Randleman show his notorious glass chin or will he have a surprise for the "Big Cat?"
Rating: n/a

14. Yuki Kondo vs. Saulo Ribero (C2K - Collosseum 2000)
Yet another lighting fast fight. This time it is the well-known Yuki Kondo killing the gaijin in 22 seconds. He connects with a knee to the head and then a few more before he uses his fast fists to get the blood flowing and provide a decisive win. Hold your breath for this one.

Extreme Challenge 21
15. Dave Menne vs. Adam Johnson
The first time I've ever seen someone in bikini briefs in a fight...non-catfight that is. Dave Menne, pre-tattoos and goatee, gets a quick guillotine and puts this hairy bald guy to sleep. Weird to watch and so why not include it?
Rating:

16. Matt Hughes vs. Victor Hansaker
The rugged lil' Hughes puts a hurting on with a trademark slam and then about two dozen punches to the head. Sometimes people are so overmatched it makes you wonder.
Rating: n/a

17. Tom Schmitz vs. Shannon Ritch
Yet another fast win, though this one might have you guessing. Shannon "The Cannon" comes in like a wild man ready to duke it out, but the smaller Schmitz is not unprepared and shows everyone how the best technique is usually the deciding factor in MMA. Too bad he didn't continue in the tournie and Ritch went onto success in KOTC.
Rating: n/a

18. Dave Menne vs. Matt Hughes
A true dream match before its time with two wrestlers turned fighters of varying styles. This was before Menne's Team Extreme days, so his style is less Miletech and more his own. Hughes only knows one style: big slams and big punches. Hughes takes control early with those exact tools. This goes to a decision for Hughes, who was quickly armbarred for the first of two times in history by Dennis Hallman.

SuperBrawl 3

1. Pat Miletech vs. Jason Nichelson
Miletech claims he's not a favorite, but against a boxer, you've got to wonder because he's already had a share of fights and we know the past success (or lack of) with boxers in MMA. The "Croatian Sedation" does his thing here as Nichelson looks better early on, but eventually Miletech gets on his back and the elbows fly. Both men bloodied and battered survive until the bitter end. A really good see-saw battle that would've been improved by rounds, but was pretty impressive considering the stamina required.
Rating: *** (Ground/Striking)

2. Jay R. Palmer vs. Danny Bennett
Tae Kwon Do (which I've never seen look good) against Muay Thai (doesn't usually stand well by itself) go at it in an interesting battle of two guys I know nothing about. The highlights make the undefeated Palmer look like a wrecking machine with head stomps that would make Chute Boxe fighters quesy. A lot of wrestling out of two strikers, who have to work hard to defend themselves. Bennett tries hard and shows a lot of versitility, while Palmer gets frustrated and winded before taking a vicious head kick that knocks him out. Great finish to a helluva fight and that's how winning streaks should end - with zero controversy. Bennett cuts a good promo afterwards that plays up his "Danny Boy" persona, puts over his opponent and so on.
Rating: **** (Ground/Combo)

3. Frank Shamrock vs. John Lober
Shamrock states he's in a "foul mood" and will use his strikes before "breaking something," nice strategy. Frank gets an immediate takedown and controls the opening minutes. Lober turns it around and has a stronger offensive surge. Then it goes back to Shamrock, who gets another takedown after some uneventful standup. Lober's submission defense is brutish, but effective. His strikes are also superior, but Frank's takedowns and submission attempts are noticably better. Then while in a dominant position Lober loses a tooth for some color that fires up the "Machine" and he puts a hurting on Frank. It comes down to a split decision...
Rating: ***3/4 (Ground/Combo)

SuperBrawl 13

4. Eugene Jackson vs. Dustin Dawson
This is a fast one as Jackson brutes Dawson down and chokes him out quickly with a rear naked choke. This guy doesn't just have a freaky build - he can go!
Rating: n/a

5. Eugene Jackson vs. John Jones
Here we see an opponent put up a little more of a fight. This time Jackson just has to muscle him down and uses his chin before putting Jones away with a forearm choke. What an easy tournament win, but did you expect much less?
Rating: n/a

6. Jay R. Palmer vs. Steven "Bozo" Poling
Palmer has quite a rep in SuperBrawl, while Poling is making his debut. Will Jay R. make the debuting "Bozo" look like just another clown or does this young gun have a something waiting for Palmer? This is a fast and furious, so don't blink.
Rating: n/a

7. Bobby Hoffman vs. Ricco Rodriguez
Two wrestlers turned fighters, Hoffman has boxing and Rodriguez has submissions. A funny fight to look back on with Hoffman's opportunity in the big time blown and Ricco often not getting the chances he probably deserves. Rodriguez blows his wad early (he's certainly turned a lot of fat to muscle) and is knocked stupid by the "Bad Seed."
Rating: **3/4 (Combo/Striking)

8. Josh Barnett vs. John Marsh
Two more up-and-comers. Barnett still has his trademark pear shape and Marsh looks the same as I remember. Marsh is best known as being fodder for Ricco Rodriguez in Pride, while Barnett became a UFC Champion. Barnett controls the action well and works like a horse before getting a great slam and mount for the tapout.
Rating: **3/4 (Ground/Combo)

9. Josh Barnett vs. Bobby Hoffman
After a pre-match show by the drunken Tank Abbott (that is really disturbing) we get a helluva a heavyweight war. The first round is great with Barnett bringing it in tight and using knees from the clinch to wear Hoffman down. The second round sees more of the same, until Barnett's nose begins bleeding bad and Hoffman gets him down and mounted. Barnett comes back though and we get a convincing decision win.
Rating: ***3/4 (Standing/Striking)
