Nick's Life



April, 1966- Nick is running a high stakes cello game in the backroom of Burns' Second Hand Store on 14th St near Broadway in Ybor City. Agents learn a few weeks later that the game has been moved across the street from Demmi's Grocery.

January 13, 1967- Nick pleads guilty in a gambling case and receives a whopping $25 fine.

July 13, 1967- The FBI learn that Nick has been flying to Miami each Thursday night and drive down to Key West until after the Cuban lottery numbers are called. Then he pays off lottery writers in Key West then returns to Miami and pays the writers off there before coming back to Tampa. This info was relayed by an informant who learned it from Nick's brother, Al.

March 16, 1968- Nick was arrested by Tampa PD vice squad at 856 Zack St. He was charged with conducting a lottery and possession of gambling paraphenalia. Cops found $1700 and a bunch of bolita info written down. A Margaret Walker was arrested with Nick but charges against her were dismissed.

October 27, 1971- Nick's 1971 gambling conviction appeal goes before the Supreme Court. It doesn't go well. On December 21, 1971 he goes to federal prison to begin serving his five year sentence.
