A native of Plover, WI, Scott has an impressive hockey background. He had a brief stint with the Univeristy of Alaska Anchorage (WCHA) before transferring to his hometown and joining the Universiry of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Goaltender for the Pointers, Scott was two-time MVP and three-time NCHA all-academic team.
Before College, Scott played two seasons in the United States Hockey League for the North Iowa Huskies and the Green Bay Gamblers.
