My Carnivorous Plants!
I have been growing Carnivorous
plants since 1995. Venus Fly Traps,
Sarracenia, Sundews and Nepenthes.
I normally grow them outside on the
roof with the Bonsai, but that
environment was a bit too harsh for them..
too windy.
For the 2001 season for the Carnivores,
I decided to try an experiment.
Normally they grow outside all
summer up on the roof of my building,
but that environment is far from
ideal..they get the tons of direct sunlight
they crave, but the constant wind
and dry air is not good for them. (its VERY
windy 9 stories up! it never ends!)
Carnivorous plants are swamp dwellers, they
need high-humidity..the roof just
wasnt making them happy, they were getting
weaker year after year.
So in the spring of 2001 I brought
them all indoors to work! They lived in a
nice bright East facing window
and took part in Digital Photography Experiments!
I think it worked well for them..of
course the big
problem was that they couldnt feed
themselves! I solved that problem by feeding
them a few times with some insect-like
fish food. they did fine.
I brought them back home to the
roof in September for a month to begin their
Autumn dormancy, and they ate a
lot then. So the experiment was a success!
they will go back into the window
next March.
