Well, sometimes in our lives, we have our proverbial "15 Minutes of Fame", that has yet to happen to me...hmmmm...maybe I should jump off a bridge or somethin....rather drastic, but at least I would get media coverage..hahahaha!!! What HAS happened is meeting various celebs from well known TV shows, and i'm the first to admit for someone who has only been out of my home province once in his life (the planes ain't cheap pal!), seeing these people was a great experience for myself. I do want to point out though, that I have never been "starstruck", and while it's great to meet someone you've seen on the boob tube, they are still human. Personally, I think they respect you more if you don't come off like some mumbling idiot. just a note if you actually meet someone famous! anyways....ON WITH THE SHEW.....(yeah....that's a pretty bad Ed Sullivan impersonation isn't it????...what did you expect? something decent??? hahahaha!!!!)
Being a fan of "StarTrek" for ever since I can remember, I was thrilled to attend the 1st "Maritime Science Fiction Festival" in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, in April of 1996, where the guest speaker was none other than "Majel Barrett Roddenberry" who was "Number One" in the original "The Cage" Pilot, "Christine Chapel" in the original classic series, and "LwaxanaTroi" in Star Trek-the Next Generation, The "Computer Voice" on all of the ST series, and has made appearances as Lwaxana in Deep Space Nine as well. She was also married to Gene Roddenberry, creator of the original Star Trek series. I personally cannot say a bad thing about my experience in meeting with Majel, as when I mentioned this was my first Sci-Fi convention to her after standing in line for her autograph, she personally shook my hand and welcomed me to the convention. I also have a autographed script and personally autographed photo, but this photo was taken in the hotel bar of the Ramada Renaissance, where the convention took place. You'd think after doing her Q & A session she would retreat to her room to relax, but she was surprisingly accessable to the conventioneers. I cannot help but be impressed by that, and Majels attitude overall. She seems to be quite a woman.
This one FRIDAY THE 13th that was GREAT for me!!!....Friday August 13th, 1993. Being a fan of WKRP..the BEST SITCOM EVER PRODUCED!!(ok...so i'm a little biased!!) I was surprised to see in the paper the arrival of the "Maytag Repairman" for one day in Halifax. I thought, "could it be Gordon Jump??? Arthur Carlson himself??" indeed it was! Fortunately for me, it wasn't really promoted in the media until the day of, so very few people knew about it. I went early, and had a chance to talk with Mr Jump for about 10 minutes, and if you have seen the sitcom, it's exactly what you expect. I don't know if he borrowed his personal mannerisms for his "Arthur Carlson" character, or the other way around, but he seems to be a really great guy to talk to, with no hint of a ego. He has been back to this province since, on a tour of Nova Scotia, to the Maytag Home Appliance Centers, to a far better turnout....as it was properly promoted this time, but I and my friend Fred Bowdridge (to the left of Mr Jump!) enjoyed the chance to meet the "Big Guy" I suppose you can say I don't have a life....meeting the maytag repairman and all, but hey...I just thought it was neat!!!!Oh....here's some inside trivia he told me.....first, HE DID WORK IN RADIO IN OHIO AT ONE TIME!!! ain't that ironic!!! as a Broadcast Exec with Avco Broadcasting, but left for Hollywood, because he wanted to become a actor! good thing for us! AND, he admits the WKRP tapings were a lot of work but a lot of fun...and to this day, he has yet to see all of the episodes produced. I suppose he's quite busy! all in all, a great experience!!!!!
HELP HELP!!!! THAT X-FILES ALIEN BOUNTY HUNTER HAS GOT ME!!! MULDER , SCULLY WHERE ARE YOU????? hahahahaha!!! actually, I just had a chance to snap a quick pic with Brian Thompson, who among other rolls, plays the "alien bounty hunter" on the "X-Files". Brian was appearing at the "2nd Annual Maritime Science Fiction Festival" telling about his rolls on the X-files, and his role in the movie "Mortal Kombat" , and while Brian is well built to the point where I wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley, I am slightly taller than brian....by about 3 or 4 inches (he's about 6'1")...and I could use some bulk I suppose, me is "stick city", but hey, I like myself, and this is one of my favorite pics, as my warped sense of humor comes out a bit......Brian is Married with kids, so I imagine he has to kill a lot of aliens to make some decent cash.....hahahahahahaha!!!!!!
