The following is a audio and photographic record of my family's personal visit to Peggy's Cove on September 12th, 1998...the Saturday after the Monday when they opened up Peggy's Cove again to the general public...it was closed for 5 days while being the base of rescue operations for Flight 111. May all of the 229 on board truly rest in peace.

please click on the smaller "icon sized" photo for a more detailed, larger look.

While a bit difficult to see, this is a panoramic view of the rescue operations (as they were calling it at the time) with approximately 6 ships about 5 kilometers off shore over the actual crash site...

This is a better perspective of the rescue operations view from peggy's cove.....again, a bit difficult to see the actual ships on the horizon...

Some of the Rescue Operations were based outside Peggy's Cove...literally down the road approximately a mile, next to a convenience store...no doubt because of the rather small size of the actual cove..

Here's a Picture of the wreaths and flowers laid at the base of the well known lighthouse

A Good Shot of Peggy's Cove near the rocks...it's a bit hard to see, but near the middle left of the pic, is the Coast Guard Helicopter which did numerous flyby's to the ships off shore while I was visiting....check out the audio for actual sound.

Here's a small area within the cove that was still closed off...obviously Military Rescue Operations..

A Nice View of one of the things Peggy's Cove is best known for, and Nova Scotia in general...the Peggy's Cove Lighthouse. the Lighthouse is actually a VERY small Post Office, where you can mail postcards back home with the Peggy's Cove postmark. obviously, with this tragedy taking place, that whole mentality of a souvenir, took on a whole new meaning.

Finally, probably the best known image for Nova Scotia and Peggy's Cove....in the tourist industry anyway...the quaint little fishing village that it is...and the good people that live there.

AUDIO

The Following audio was recorded on site, to give a aural prespective as to the atmosphere of Peggy's Cove that day...In addition, I have created a "audio collage" sequence of some of the activity that was going on that day within the cove...which includes helicopter activity and boats going in and out.....hope you enjoy it, and with the pictures, gives you a good feel for Peggy's Cove and the tragedy that took place there.
