| STREET WITH GUTTER 20" x 16" acrylic on canvas This was just an attempt to experiment a little with light. I wanted to create the effect of sunlight hitting the higher buildings in the distance and then reflecting through the streets which are almost like tunnels. Then a big splash of reflected light on the underside of the closest arch. Also, I wanted to use some deep blue shades on the close side of the arch to give an impression of mortar and mineral deposits. I don't know if I gave that imprssion, but the blue still helps the painting and breaks up the orange-brown feeling. I put the gutter in at the very end to reflect some of the colors from the distant buildings. I might have wanted the ground near the gutter to be a little darker for more contrast, but overall, I acheived what I wanted. This was not meant to be a "masterpiece" by any means, just something to practice some techniques. |
