I originally tried to paint this as a plain landscape, but then decided to add the wagon train which I think makes the painting more interesting. Originally, there were no fall colors, and a person said he would like to purchase it if I put some fall colors in the trees. After that, the painting took on more meaning to me because I have pioneer ancestors who were caught in a fall storm in the mountains of Wyoming (I think in 1856).
