| ALPS SUNSET 18" x 24" acrylic on canvas A neighbor gave me some photographs from France that don't resemble this painting, but that had houses and mountains similar to these. I wanted to show a wintertime village nestled in the mountains with a road that winds down into an alpine canyon. I took the advice of a friend and tried to create some contrasts. The shaded mountain on the lower right and the highlighted large mountain in the upper left are examples. Also, the road was darkened significantly to contrast with the reflections in the puddles. This sky turned out ok, and gave a feeling of sunset or sunrise with the tops of some of the roofs even catching a little bit of the light. |
